INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I am bumping my post because I really need you guys!! I know irritating huh, lol. I Just commited to a pair of SQ silkies I am picking up sunday, I am trading my blue cochin cockerel for them. I am kinda at a loss right now with my cockerels and I could really use some advice from you all. I think I may be BYC codependent.

When every you are ready to let go of the roos let me know and I can come pick them up. Showed wife the pics and she fell in love. LOL

Mother2Hens, Where did I find the hurt chicks or the chicken rescue? Not sure which you meant, but I'll tell you both anyway

I found the hurt chicks are Rural King, they had a whole bunch of 3 or 4 week olds in a bin and they were picking on 4 chicks. Two have no feathers on their wings and one is pecked to the bone (poor dear) and the others have badly damaged vents. Apparently having the chicks die rather than find a seperate bin for them was preferable to them.

And as to the rescue, I already have a dog/cat rescue (Furever Home) and when I decided to get chicks this year (my mom and grandma always kept some when I was younger) I noticed how (in my area at least) chickens are treated "expendable". So if 4 chicks in a bin of 30 are pecked to death, it's ok. I don't like any animal suffering, so I decided that since there was no chicken rescue anywhere near me, I would just add on to my existing rescue!

Hipe that answered your question!
This is what I said: Welcome ShaunaScott~ I missed your post-- where'd you find it vickichicki? I was just saying the other day that I'd like to have a chicken rescue, but it wouldn't work in my subdivision! ha

This is what I meant: ShaunaScott, I did not see your original post that vickichicki quoted. I thought I had read all of the Indiana posts, but vickichicki quoted your message about your rescue, so I wondered when you originally posted it. So... I was referring to your post, not the chicks. Sorry for the confusion! Anyway, your rescue sounds great!

I still have my rescued baby squirrel that I am hoping to put back outside soon.

Any homeless cockerels can come free range here I don't mind adding more my barn is big enough for 200 more and I'd be glad to take hens I'm just so far from everyone it makes it difficult

Ok so here is my questions, how do you all keep multiple roosters? I am ok to have them at my house, I just have an imbalance of roos/ hens. I would keep them all if I thought they could live in harmony. They all sleep together in their coop at 2 months old and get along fine right now. when do they start fighting each other? Can they stay together?

hogster~ Glad you had success with FF! I bet it was fun to watch the chicks enjoy their new food.

dungheap and pipzip~ I know that there is a big controversy about the difference between EE and Ameracauna and I think the difference has been discussed here before, but I couldn't find it.
So...everyone: what is mine? I've posted this photo before, but it's a clear photo of "Road Runner" at approx. 10 mos. old. She has earmuffs and a beard. Last June, I traded one of my surprise RIR cockerels for her. The couple wanted a rooster because someone had given them 30 chicks-- he referred to them as Ameracauna, but I've always called her an EE.

Beats me. I think I have it figured out and then find out I don't. I bought the blue hen and black roo from someone who breeds to sop. She said these probably wouldn't be show quality but they laid sky blue eggs and that's what she was going for at the time. I'm a hobbyist. I'm not going to get bent out of shape over it. I think my EE is prettier than both of them.
