INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Hey Hoosiers! First, 587 pages is quite a thread, so I skipped to the end. Just wanted to say hi. I'm from Kosciusko county. Love seeing all the Hoosiers on the boards!

SallyinIndiana posted: On a different note, we found a cat in our back barn yesterday. It won't come out though not even for food or water. I want to keep it but I need to get it out to take to the vet to make sure it is not a house pet and of course that it has all of its shots.

Have you tried tuna or something like that to lure the kitty out? I'm glad you want to take it to the vet to be checked, have shots to protect against rabies, etc., and hopefully spay/neuter it. (my soapbox is spay/neuter)
tried tuna, and canned cat food, even a jar of beef baby food. I left some hard food out. it is gone so I guess that is a good start.
humane trap for racoons put a can of cat food or tuna in the back behind the tipping device and sprinkle another can down the floor of the trap out the door and a little in front of it.
I will ask DH to set it up. I'm not good at setting our trap. I was fine with our old one but this new one trips easier and makes me a little jumpy.

Quinstar~ Welcome to the Indiana Thread! If you’d like to be added to the member’s list, just let me know. “Being a member of this thread” just means adding your screen name and flock info, which can be helpful because the list is a spreadsheet format that lets you sort the list by breed, county, or other category. It’s an easy way to find other members who have the same breed you have or who live in a nearby county, etc.

Click on the link below my signature to view the list. When you open the list, just look at the bottom of the list page for sorting options.

If you’d like to be added, send me a PM (personal message) by simply placing your cursor over my screen name: Mother2Hens, and you will see “Send a PM.” A personal message ensures that your info is added. Please send your screen name, county, and city. Also include the following information about each member of your flock: List each species (chicken, duck, etc.), breed (Barred Rock, etc.), is it a LF (Large Fowl) or Bantam?

Anybody here in randolph county? And who else has plymouth rock? I have 2 barreds hatchery, just hatched my very first batch they are breeder blue, black, splash. I will have a few roos 4 i think if anyone is interested cant keep them in town.

You're on the list mlongworth, and I didn't find anyone else who lives in Randolph County, however, not everyone on the Thread is listed although everyone is welcome to be added.

I don't know why my post above is all in color-- it wasn't that way in the preview.
I have put all my 5 week old out in the coop for the day they are so happy they are playing . it is so fun to watch.
They are adorable to watch as they explore new things! I can't wait to get outside with my girls on this beautiful day. The problem is that I work from home, and my hens beckon me to go outside when I should be inside working!

HI I'm new here!

I've been lurking for awhile and finally decided to dive in. I'm in northern Rush county and have 2 barred rocks, 2 EEs and 3 RIRs that are about 5 weeks old. We moved their coop outside yesterday and hope to get their run built this week!

I'm hoping to pick up 2 more pullets sometime soon to add to the flock.

i think everyone has some mutts. I have not yet tried to incubate a banty/standard egg yet.
I didn't hatch them but I have them and they are from a Silkie Hen mated by a Black Copper Marans Roo; the results were smooth feathered small boys. One is bigger than the other but are both as small or smaller than my Silkies from a different breeder.

Welcome Quinstar!! Just FYI....I regret not checking in these past 3 days because....WOW...first time I've stepped away that long and now I'm trying to catch up on like 10 pages!

Busy weekend! Baseball games, started on the new coop and getting the gardens ready! Sooo much going on!

Oh...and on a more mad as fire note! I was awaiting 15 more lovely Black Copper Marans chicks this past week. Had them incubated and been waiting for 21 days!! The breeder sent me a note that he had a good hatch and was shipping 19! Whoohoo...excited about that! I get the call Thursday @ 5am from the Post office...said a couple they thought were dead...sad but not shocked. Then I get there and she informs me that she saw from the truck delivering from Indy that the box had been loaded on its side. Needless to say when I got them home and opened the box I had 4 gasping for breathe and others smashed together! So today I only have 9 of 19! So upset by the very carelessness of it all! They were prob all wonderful and then the last 40 miles they were dead! Oh..makes me mad! I took pictures and sent to the breeder who has filed a claim. The pics are sooo graphic, really, just couldn't believe it!

OK done! Sorry for venting!
