I'm still learning this site and haven't seen any hatcheries but will most certainly look. And thank you for the tips.

No problem.. and as Pip suggested.. Meyer did produce some stunning birds. Might try there first.

Itsjustme- I ordered from Ideal in Feb, most were dead, too cold) customer service was very nice and refunded promptly. Reordered in late march and all were fine. They look very nice for hatchery birds. I've been happy with them. Someone had some antwerps at the animal swap in Milton Ky a couple of weeks ago. Are there any swaps near you?

I got 25 chicks from eFowl.com 5/9/2013. They arrived in the mail and I picked them up from the Post Office at 6:00 am. All arrived alive, hungry, and thirsty. All are still alive.

From what I can tell, they seem to be of reasonable quality. I'll know more when they are older.

I also ordered Indian Runner Ducks from them. They shipped 17 on Monday 6 pm. They arrived Thursday at 6 am. 5 were dead. 2 died within an hour. 2 more died in the next hour. I called them and told them. Their only question was whether I wanted replacements or a refund. I took the refund.

For service, I highly recommend them. For quality, no complaints, but the birds are young yet.

Also I've used my phone some for posting on here and have been able to pull pics from my photos. If I emailed a photo to myself then saved it I could then pull from there.

Hi all! Just started fermenting feed and i think its great! Thanks janet! The birds love it so much they come right up to me and eat out of the spoon! Much easier to put them up at night if they fear they are going to miss out on food! I love seeing hard poops now instead of runny ones! The birds also love tge plastic gutter we are feeding them in too! Everyone just lines right up! Also i still have 3 americana polish mix chicks for $6 total. I want all 3 gone to make room for my ducklings in brooder. Judging by their color i would say there are 2 hens and a roo! Email [email protected]
Hope everyone had a great holiday weekend!
Where are you located?

I know, I think he is stunning and would make some beautiful chicks with my girls.. The only thing I am humming and arhhhing at is his age... the girls are still young and probably not ready for such a vivacious male yet.

So how did you handle it with your DH? You were so young and he was ..........................

I got around to taking some pictures of my new chickens I got.I only got pictures of the salmon favorelles,, because the orloffs are still skitish and wont hold still. I named the orloffs hawk and sparrow. And I named the salmon favorelles salmon and tuna (can you guess how I came up with their names lol).

This is Tuna

This is Salmon
In the first picture she is laying upside down in my arms lol.

and a face shot since she wont let me take a full body picture (wont hold still)

well shoot Vickichicki, I tried. besides I am hearing from some people hes an OEGB and not an EE anyway. good luck finding the boys you want.

I hit Menards reduced lumber pile today. I either got the floor for my coop, or a veggie garden box depending on how the measurements look. Might actually be able to start retrofitting Friday if the weather will break again.

I know this is not. Chicken related but does anyone know a home remedie to cure the cat cold??? Ms. Oreo has a cold she's sneezing and breathing weirdly any home remedies would help (if they dont hurt my cat) thanks
Animallover does she get her shots every year? High humidity and warm damp weather unfortunately promotes distemper. How old is oreo?

this is a very sad day. this is one of our silkies. she has stood on one leg for months now and refused to leave the coop. no swelling and no other symptoms. i never found any sore spots or anything with her leg. 3 weeks ago we brought her in from the coop into the small coop we have inside because she started to loose a little weight. we started her on poly-vi-sol and anti-biotics. she started to seem like she was getting better. then last week that all changed and she collapsed. she is now unable to stand at all and just lays on her side. i have been helping her eat and drink once an hour since. i feel the time has come that it would be best to end her suffering. she has no quality of life at this point. she is one of my favorite chickens. i feel like my heart is being ripped out but know this will be for the best. please don't think this is easy for me because it isn't. this is one of the hardest things i have ever had to do. she will always be in my heart.

I am so sorry

hope someone can offer advice, but you said the key words I believe in "QUALITY OF LIFE" you are who needs to make that choice. Its our responsibility to ensure this for every animal we keep.

Need some opinions! Husband swears we need to wait until our chickens are a year old to butcher....that the chicken wouldn't be 8 pounds before then. I think we can butcher a lot earlier and have more tender meat that way, especially since we have dual purpose breeds... what are the pros and cons of both sides?

I never let one intended for the table go out past 8 months. Ever hear of a rubber chicken?

Have had the experience of trying to eat an old laying hen and I will never forget it. I was a kid and didn't know better, my best friend made fried chicken and didn't read the package.... wow..hopeless.

Wow, thats a dilemma! Do you have broody space? you can always take the chicks during or after hatch.
Quote: Well said! You have sure explained better than I could have.... My pearl Quasey, love her to pieces, is such a sweet girl. but she loves water puddles. I can see that being a disaster!
