Beware the giant catch up post below!!!

Tony, so sorry to hear about your flock. I hope that you are able to find what you are looking for!

Photo editing software and myself don't mix, so Instagram lets me at least pretend like I know what I'm doing. ;) About 30 seconds after this picture she pooped on the coop and promptly flew back to her sisters who were in their pen about 15ft away. Guess we now how she feels about being separated from them.

Brad~ do you think you'll hatch some BLWR eggs next summer? If you do put me on the list! DH might divorce me if I try to bring anything else home this year.

I love the wheels and trailer hitch! We thought about making ours mobile, but I had no idea how we would move it. Guess I have my answer. A little late, but good to keep in mind for the future. Love your flock!

Oh John, the chickens love your roost. They just only love the top pole. Glad the ducks finally got things figured out. Maybe they'll decide that your ok once you stop having to manhandle the little poopers all the time.

Oooo, I hadn't even thought of that! I don't think they little chickens ear drums would appreciate that. I'll look into the clear plastic. Does is help heat up the coop in the winter too? We're going to have 6 windows on the coop total, but I feel like you can never have to many entries for the sun!

That sounds like a story my dad would have tried to tell me. Now if anyone tells me something that is even remotely interesting I just assume they are lying. ;)

Yes, we are planning on using 10 foot beams for the trusses. So we should get a foot of over hange on the high and low side. We are planning on a 16x8 enclosed run off of the high side as well, but we weren't planning on having that covered. We may end up covering about the first 5 ft off the coop because I think we are going to run out of hardware cloth and I really don't feel like buying another roll just for 5 ft.
I would suggest that the trusses go over the high side and overhang about 4 feet. You can always add on. It doesn't have to win awards, only be functional. Ours goes over the high side of the run about 1 ft, and it'd be nice if it had another 3. Our run works out to about a 16x8 also.

This picture shows before the run was added on, you can see the beginning of the fencing below/around the coop. The high side is where it would've been nicer to have more of an overhang. Our overhead ariel protection is attached to the top of the cedar shake roof. It would be easy to attach it below, with an overhang. The high point is about 6.5 feet.

my two leghorns(who are camera shy) and my red pullet(secretly my fave cuz she has the most personality!)

my Rosie is such a ham, camera or no camera!
I love every second of getting to know my girls and watching their personalities come through! Starting to feel like i'm getting a "feel" for chicken keeping now since these lovelies are 14 weeks now. So glad I decided to own chickens.
Isn't that the truth. Can't believe we've waited so long to get some chickens around here. We sorta talked about it for the last 5 years. This is our first time chickening, and plan on doing it for a long time. They have such fun personalities! How many do you have? We have 8, 2 white leghorns, 2 SLW (1 rooster) 2 NH (1 rooster) and 2 amber-links.

we have the one red pullet(i call her red pullet because that's what the sign said at TSC. She seems to be the one in charge!) 2 white leghorns, and two ameraucanas. I two SLW that turned out to be roos so I had to find them a new home as our flock is a backyard flock with neighbors around. Next year i plan on getting some orpingtons--hopefully from my sis because she just got a new flock of straight run buff orps and black australorps. She told me they were going to breed them so hopefully i will have some next year! I don't know why we waited so long to have chickens either, but i'm so glad i did as they are fast becoming my pets!!!

How long until you won't have them any more? Because I might be interested in the EE roo. It's just I am in the middle of doing some building and it probably wouldnt be the best idea for me to get him with all this going on lol. If you aren't going to have them that much longer I understand, because 4 roos all at once man would that be a pain lol.

We've already got our first tomato on one of the tomato plants! :yesss: Not making much progress on the coop addition, though. I'm only about a third of the way through digging the area out. The mosquitoes are miserable! :/

I just posted them on Craigslist. So ill see what interest I get from there. Otherwise ill probably be butchering here in a week or so. They are still a little small, but enough meat for just me lol.

Probably 2, possibly 3. The chicken lady at Orschelns expressed interest the last time I talked to her so I need to follow up with her and see how many she wanted. Ill be most likely keeping all the ones with a vaulted skull. None of my current silkies have vaulted skulls except possibly the showgirl which isn't very vaulted if it is.

Well let me know. I would like more silkies to go along with mine.

Your already getting tomatos and I just planted seeds lol. I think I am a little behing on gardening. I dont even have all of seeds planted or the garden tilled. First a plant mine in those bio degrandable organic caontainer things. Then once they are seedling I will plant them in the ground. I sarted cleaning up my barn so that I can convert some old horse stalls into chicken pens. But on the plus side of using old pen, 7 old horse stalls= 7 more chicken pens. % of which will have outside runs the other two will just be grow out pens. But if I wouldnt use these old stalls I wouldnt of built that many pens so theres another plus side to it. Just think although you arent making much progress, it is because you are taking extra time to get it done right and make it look good lol! And I know how you feel about mosquitoes. I am a mosquitoes magnet apparently, I get losquitoes bites in winter! Good luck with your coop addition!
