Ok, I just read the guineas will know my chickens off their roost at night.... is that true?

Everyone will tell you something different , but for me, I raise my with the chicks, but as adults most won't even go in the chicken house,(though some do lay in there) they prefer to roost outside They freerange my property. Once in a while one will make a run at a chicken, but they have never hurt none of them or even grabbed one. If you are planning on keeping them locked up with the chickens it might be a different story, maybe someone who has tried it, can tell you something different.

OK, silly question, but how does a full grown guinea measure up to a full grown LF chicken? I'm trying to plan out for space and figure out how many guineas I want and still account for the few chickens I want to get next year without expanding. Also, I really want to be sure that everyone will get along ok.

Who all has both and what's your experience been.

Brad Selig is probably more knowledgeable than me on the subject, but since you just need to know "about", I can do that.

Guineas are smaller than LF chickens, but not a whole lot. Adults will weigh around 3 pounds.

I have completely separate quarters for my Guineas and chickens, so I can't help you there. They are a good 50 feet away from each other, but free-range in the same general area, and the (chicken) hens actually beat up on the Guineas more than the other way around. I haven't had a (chicken) rooster around the Guineas, though, so I don't know how that would work out. My Guineas are similar in size to my large fowl (chicken) hens.

I can't tell you anything about the costs involved with keeping dairy goats, but my aunt and uncle had some for several years. My aunt was injured multiple times by them - kicked, head butted, knocked off her feet - until finally they had to sell them because it was just too difficult. Her customers were very disappointed and it broke my aunt's heart, but it just wasn't worth the risk any more.

Does anyone know how much owning a dairy goat cost??? My dads thinking about getting one

If he is thinking of selling excess goat milk, he should check with the health department or whatever is the ruling department about whether or not there are proscriptions against selling raw milk from the farm. I don't know what Indiana rules are, but some states show up with police with drawn weapons to discourage such lawless behavior. A little searching on youtube will turn up the security video of the event. I think it was in California, surprise, surprise.

In Indiana you get around it by sell herd shares.
