Moring everyone!!! Pepper is doing the same, no worse and no better. Still holding her foot up and using her knee to walk. Shes been resting inside a dog carrier since monday shes eating and drinking just fine but I can tell she misses her sisters. She outside on the porch in the carrier getting some fresh air. After watching the youtube videos I cant say for sure its not the slow moving Mareks but the way they held their feet is a little than how she is holding hers. Also I saw her itch the back of her head with her hurt foot which instantly made me happy to see her use the toenails that I thought she couldnt feel. Although it might be common and I just dont know that lol. I HAVE HOPE!!!! Im doing some leg exercises to see if it'll helps. Thank you to you all!!!!

Hey guys, all of my chickens are sweet hearts....except for my RIR girls. They are gorgeous, but they bite me, unprovoked. I can be walking through the pasture and they run up and nip my legs. They are mean to the 4 week old too. Any advice? They lay awesome eggs, so no "off with their heads", I just don't get the aggression. I'll trade them for some nice girls if any one wants some pretty RIR's that lay nice eggs, if I can't fix the issue. These are the best pics i have of them. They are so pretty, they are just my only girls who bite me. Even the roosters don't bite like they do.

I used to have some production rir. The roosters get really mean and sneaky as they get older. The hen were mean to me and the other chickens too. I took the hose to them as fast as I would a rooster. Not the right time of the year for that trick. I like the other poster's idea of bumping or flicking the hen in the chest. Bribing did not work for me. holding them upside down in front of the other chickens helped for a short while but had to be repeated frequently. Selling them brought peace but also the loss of eggs.

There is a book Once Upon A Flock ~ the author had a chicken with the Mareks. She put that chicken through all kinds of physical recovery, home remedies and then her friend helped with physical therapy. That chicken made it but she did live separate from the flock in a special area just for her. It is not something I would do for any of my chickens at this point but if Pepper is your pet, maybe it is something you could look into.

I picked up a few chicks, from Brad S., about a month ago and I am finally uploading a few photos. So far, what a great group of birds!

The Silkie is about 6 weeks

Any thoughts on the coloration or gender? He's definitely getting a few odd colored stragglers coming in. I know nothing about coloration or Blue genetics.

The next two are Birchen Marans and about 7 weeks old.

If you can zoom in at all, there are white marks on his head feathers.
Are those copper flecks in the back feathers?

Last but not least, the Swedish Flower Hen. Eh hem, HE's about 9 weeks old...

The SFH and BM always do the dance, when I put them in the yard. So they scream Roos, unless it's normal pecking order behavior.

Thank you Mother2Hens!!! Very useful infomation that I will be using undoubtedly!! Im happy to have other offices as a option instead of just one clinic!!! Im so thankful for this site!!! I feel less alone in my chicken worries!!

M2H: The videos of chickens playing the piano are great! I can imagine Nene provide hours of entertainment. Definitely some musical possibilities there!

I like to sit inside the chicken run, or outside the fence, and just watch the girls interact.

Edith, our Barred Rock pullet with a big floppy comb, is curious about everything. She would be a great candidate to go on tour with Nene!

Oh! we should be putoether a little chickens band lol! my girl tuna (salmon favorelle) would make a great little singer. She is an outcast an enjoys carrying on conversations with herself

One of my EEs started laying. It no doubt a double yoker. Heres a couple picture to capture it size.

In this picture I am holdin the egg, and I have pretty big hands for a girl




next to a medium/large size egg


It is a large size egg carton. I couldnt shut the carton, Is there a size bigger than jumbo?

That's my favorite book that I have relentlessly urged our thread to read. It's funny, poignant, but most of all-- very relatable to chicken owners.
