INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Welcome!

There is so much helpful info on here. Hope you enjoy!
Your roosters are beautiful! Do you know what breeds?
Thanks. I don't know what breeds they are. I had a hen go broody and got some fertilized eggs from a friend of mine. Her bantams are older and have had several hatches, and crosses, so no clue.

Browncow, when my babies are sleeping in the nest box, I go out every night after dark and move them to the perches. They eventually get the hint and start going to perch on their own. :)

Thank goodness it's Friday! It's been a long week!!

Reposting: Any suggestions for keeping the babies from sleeping in the nest boxes? I don't really want poopy eggs!!

Haven't really had that issue but just wanted to make sure roosts are higher than the nest boxes? Since they typically want the highest spot they should want to stay on the roosts.

Thanks bradselig. I think I did get myself added a few months ago, just been slow to get engaged here. You guys are a VERY involved and supportive of one another!!
I like the "personality" of this thread. There is a lot of "drama" and disrespect on some threads but this is a great group of people!

BTW...where is Old Salt lately? I was "kidding" him the other day and I hope it didn't sound mean or disrespectful!

That's my favorite book that I have relentlessly urged our thread to read. It's funny, poignant, but most of all-- very relatable to chicken owners.

I am a "wanna be" backyard chicken farmer in West Lafayette. I have been reading and dreaming. I saw this book recommended and I bought it. It is my life! I am in the drawing stages of a coop for spring. I am thoroughly enjoying it and wish I were reading it slower. The illustrations really add to the book. I am reading it on a kindle fire. However, today I have my simple e-reader and the book still looks great.

Anybody here live in the Lafayette area? I was driving to church two weeks ago and there was a chicken sitting in the middle of the road (Pawnee by Indian Trail in WL). We turned around to go "help" but she had got up and crossed the road.

Thanks for the input :) I think I might try some curtains when I move the stinkers they just wait until I leave and go back :-/ The nest boxes are probably the same height as my lowest roost but I may do some reconfiguring because I need to add more boxes before the babies start laying.
Kab- are your boxes on the floor? Do you have a pic behind the curtains? I'm trying to figure out where to put the new boxes. :)

pipd~ HTML is the “code,” so instead of me being able to make pipd in Bold letters and in a blue Color, HTML converts it to:

If BYC updated to RWD (Responsive Web Design), then the BYC site would function as well as it does on a computer when it's pulled up on a mobile device like an iPad/Tablet or a Smart Phone. The BYC owners live in California near the Silicon Valley, so surely that could find some tech help!

M2H - In regards to the above quote, I just discovered something I think you'll like.

If you go to the top of the page where it says 'Private Messages', 'Subscriptions', and has your username, then mouse over your username, a dropdown list should appear. Click on 'Preferences' from that list.

On that page under 'Forums', there should be the words 'Preferred Editor' and then another drop down. Click on it and select 'Rich Text Editor'.

Now, if you go to reply, you can highlight things and click italics, for example, and instead of code, you will see the text in italics. Or if you change the color, you'll see the text in that color instead of with the code brackets around it. It does not appear to work in the mobile site, but it works with the desktop site at least. This is what you were wanting, wasn't it?
