INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

pginsber- I now get what you are saying. Ivr necer heard of that stuff, but I do know that if it uses electricity I cant ise, because I am not running extension cords to the barn

My rooster, Peanut Butter, is starting to get a bit mean and flying at people these days. I guess that's his job, but he's going to end up in a stew pot if he keeps flying at my little redhead.

On a high note, my Wyandotte (from Old Salt), just laid her first egg yesterday. I was so excited to find four eggs in the nesting box at one time.

I hope you have a good week everyone.

Excellent use of pallets. Make more and scatter them around. They will make good shelter from the sun this summer.

I saw a picture of your redheadded pullet. She is a doll. I am irritated that you didn't bring her with you when you came for the chickens. Therefore, I recommend stew pot for the roo.

As an alternative, you could do what I did with my 5-year old grandson. My rooster came after him and flogged him. I told him to kick it. Then took him out to the chicken yard and waited. Sure enough, as soon as I backed away from Ben, the roo went for him. I shouted "kick him". He did a wimpy little slow kick. Then I demonstrated, missing because the roo knows better than to get close to me. Ben spent the next hour trying to sneak up on the roo and kick him. He never got close, but the roo now gives him wide berth. If you give Little Red an appropriate stick, I'll bet Peanut Butter will soon give her wide berth.

My Wyandottes have been laying for a month or 2. Kinda small eggs. Takes 5 to make a decent breakfast for me. I'm getting about 18/day now. If you bring Little Red by, she can see the Red Gold Pheasant and the 2 young peacocks and I'll give her some Easter Egger eggs. Having 3 daughters and 6 granddaughters, I'm kinda partial to girls. I guess you still qualify, so you can have a rooster.

it is even more fun with a lot of gun powder in a bale of hay. Of course you have to lnow how to set it up and you have a much bigger explosion

Drill a hole in a 1 pound can of black powder. Stick in a string of firecracker fuses tied 1 end to the other with thread. I would recommend at least ten of them. Light it and run like hell. That's what my brothers and I did 50 some years ago. It made an impressive noise and lots of smoke. The can carcass missed us by at least 20 feet. No blood, no problem. It's a wonder I lived through my teen years and managed not to kill one of my brothers.

SHOW & TELL TIME! (Wake-up you slacking members -- LOL -- you'd think it was a busy holiday season or something as slow as this thread has been lately) ;) It was so nice and warm today, so I took some photos of Bonbon, my English Chocolate Bantam Orpington. If anyone is interested in the breed, these photos show her shape from a few different angles. She is approx. 7 months old. No eggs yet, but that's okay. Bonbon is a fun little pet. :love
Ohh my! I always thought I wanted jubilees over chocolates but I think bon bon just changed my mind! Beautiful!
M2H, That sounds great! I'd be there for sure. Welcome TooSlow4U!! I'm sorry about that horrible week. I hope that your future weeks get better. :hugs I'm with your DF. After she came back, there would be no way I could cull her. I hope she stays healthy for you. Ragdolls are truly beautiful. I can see why you were too distracted to take pics of the kids, lol. Hi Everyone. It is again busy around here. It started with my son telling me 5 minutes into my birthday that he was tired of it being my day and could we go back to it being kids day? Well, I don't know what to say about that. He's six, so I will let it go for now. Then we were off to Grandmas house for the holiday, but my dog went into heat the night before and could not be kenneled. So, my DH being the sweet guy he is, stayed home and kept the critters alive and in non-frozen water. He drove up to Grandma's for dinner and back home again while the kids and I stayed for a few more days. We took Grandma up to Fort Wayne on a furniture shopping expedition and when we were out, you will never believe what we found. It was a full-sized Carousel inside the furniture store!!! They also had a basketball court, and if you got too tired while shopping, you could check into their hotel!!!!!!! I'm not kidding. I realized while watching the chickens that they have no shelter other than the coop when predators are about. So, I got a couple of pallets and hooked them together and covered them with limbs from the trees our power company is trimming. My DH think's its crazy, but I think its sort of cute. It needs a few more branches though. My rooster, Peanut Butter, is starting to get a bit mean and flying at people these days. i bought my couch from Klopfenstiens! It surprised me when I first saw the carousel. Love the teepee shelters!
M2H, Bon Bon is just the cutest chicken ever! Here's the boys, and they are looking terrible! The whole flock looks neglected. I can say though, that they are walking examples of 2 boys integrated into a flock together as adults, and living in harmony.... Gus has been reformed and no longer attacks people, and Blueberry is a good boy all the time.... even if they do look like crap right now. :) Some of the molt crew...
they all look great!
Another thing you could try is to put some chicken wire over it. That way, they can only get their beaks in the water. Might take some fiddling to get it right. John
Great idea!
* * * * * * * * * * C A U T I O N ! ! ! ! ! ! * * * * * * * * * * * * Step 2.5: ensure that no chicken is in the line of fire!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! John
Hahaha!

Quote: I used a 50 watt submersible last year and it was plenty large enough. I attached a bag of marbles to it to keep it under the water.

My br's look almost as bad as this girl. They seem to be the worst during molt!

One week left on my tolbunt eggs and my incubator will be turned off! I'm so proud of myself that I haven't bought or incubated any more eggs in the last 2 weeks. I've been hatching for 10 months straight now. I need a break.

ROFL that sounds like something my hubby and his brother and cousin would do! I tease them about the brother that didn't make it ;)
