Thanks for all the compliments on my farm! Glad to see the thread moving again I had three pages to catch up on today!

We've had a busy weekend. Spent all day yesterday in Anderson helping my brother and his family move. BRRRR!! Had some friends visit today so I've finally gotten a chance to sit down for a min!

One brave chicken ventured outside in the run today but not for very long. I think some if the snow melted around the edges yesterday so she didn't have to walk in it!

I got two more little victim jackets sewn up today. Poor little bald girls. Plus side, they are now wearing little coats, so maybe they will stay warmer.

They look good! Im guessig you got your seig machienr fixed. surley you didnt sew it all by hand! I know how to do both but by hand can e quite time consuming lol

Lol yeah I figured out what was wrong with it today. I have them all ready for stitching, but I ran out of snaps. Its amazing how different they act after they have their coats on. All the other hens are puffed up from the cold and the wyandottes act like they can't even feel it. I better get the other 7 done.

Ha, probably like wearing a winter coat to them. My polish fluffs up like 3 times her size and huddles with the two mottled bantam cochins. None of the other chickens act cold. Not even my duccle or ameraucania bantams which are both way smaller than any of them.

Finally broke down and added heat to the quail. Hopefully that Will get them laying again because they are already getting artificial lighting. For those that add lighting in the coops, do you just turn it on earlier in the morning only? Or just turn it on at sunset to extend night time hours? I'm thinking of just turning light on earlier than sunrise as if I keep it past sunset, they will all still be awake messing around in the coop when all of a sudden the light turns off. Then thy will have to try and find the roosts in pitch black. But I'm just curious what others do.

I got all 10 done! Whew lol. Well except for snaps, I ran out.



4 of the baby silkies went to their new home last night. The family that got them love them already. They brought us alpaca hats from their store. So warm!

Brad, I don't light. But if I did I'd do it in the morning. If you do it at night, and the light suddenly goes off, they would likely be caught off the roost and confused.

It also messes up their internal clocks to add evening light.
Morning is fine. We have rope lighting on a timer to come on at 6 am and off at 8 am. All but 3 of my girls are still laying.

Thanks, that's what I was thinking. All but like 2 of mine have stopped laying!
