INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Ok, I'm trying to be good and not add any new breeds, but these are so tempting!

One if the most beautiful bird I've seen!

ugh stop.. now I have "wants" again! I am planning for leghorn so I have a good white egg layer.
The jungle fowl are really interesting, I have looked at them a while now.
Theres too many choices

This girl has 2 different types of leg bands on, the basic spiral band that's white and then the red numbered bandette. I will likely get some if the numbered style too. The simple spiral bands are nice to quickly tag for culling, something to watch for on a specific chicken, or keep track of a certain hatch as a group but the numbered is a lot easier to keep track of individual chickens as you have two different identifiers on each band (color and number).

I Really like the look of those numbered bands too. I have a good link i bookmarked, now, I have to find it

I use the spirals a lot to mark mean roos and other events like my newest pekin drake, a rooster that broods etc.
BTW I just love that hen! I bet she is a total sweetheart.
Quote: I had to break it apart the first time like it was a treat, and put it in a bucket.... bakery buckets mean FOOD!
These guys are like vultures tho, if its in my hands they think FOOD also.
Red, my oldest roo, jumped up and stole a taco bell taco from me mid bite last year! stinker...
That was almost a 5 foot jump, I laughed so hard I had to sit down!

Quote: That's sad that you have ran into that, at shows no less. How can someone not see them too tight like that?
I would have thought people showing would be looking at the bird close enough to see the bands too.
The spirals are pretty safe usually, but I am out with my birds all day. I do sand off the points, i am afraid it could poke them.
The sizes I use are very generous, that way they won't catch them on something and not be able to get free.
If they are big, the toes will slide out if they are caught.
My turkeys lose theirs a lot for example, but I know them all by color and personality.

You would think so. I don't know how someone could of missed it. I had to have help getting them off. These ones weren't in that specific show, they were in the sale area. I guess no one thinks to look at their ankles. If they are used right and payed attention to I can see them being useful. I would be apt to use the bands with the colors and numbers.

Sorta like collars on dogs. Can't tell you how many I saw at the vet clinic that were way too tight. Heck one of the strays that showed up here recently I ended up loosening his collar before I found his owner.

Quote: Animal control, I saw dogs it had grew into their skin. Hideous. How can u ignore an animal that much?
These were the poor dogs chained to a tree with no life. maybe a dog house if they were lucky.
Just sad.

I can imagiene that is extremely painful for the dogs. I know when I was little and my ear started to grown over my ear ring it was very painful to get out (guess who doesn't have there ears pierced anymore lol). Some people just have no common sense and no heart.

Speaking of no heart I was reading an article on yahoo, I can no longer find ( I was going to post the link, but it is lost!). I don't remember where it was but people were going around to peoples backyard flocks and cutting off their heads for absolutley no reason. Others had confirmed that it was definatley done by human/s. They have no idea who is doing it and they have killed a total of 36 chickens (assuming it was all done by the same person/s). Families were devastated, as they were pets. It is sickening

Thats just sick. Makes me think of a call for AC at a church.
Beheaded opossum and lines of blood at the doors and windows.
Obviously signs of a cult worship...its pretty unsettling what some people may do.

I kinda wish I had never clicked on it. It didnt say in the title that person was doing it just that chickens were dying. So I clicked on it, I more expected some typeof pandemic of a disease not that. I camt believe someone would do that to a church, A day ago i would of said the same thing about th possum, but then I read that article

Most of that sort of stuff is done by teenagers who think it is funny. The very same kids that have parents who haven't raised them right. Rarely is it actually an occult of any sort.
