Do you still get allergy shots? I get allergy shots every 3 weeks. They say they will not go away (sometimes the allergies disappear), so pretty much I will be getting them for the rest of my life. Mine aren't just for cats though, lots more, just too much to list! They have made my life so much better, I can tell when I need one, sometimes spot on. The only bad part was getting tested for them!

My sons and I got shots for *everything*. Took four years. Our allergies have not come back. I think we finished about 3 years ago, maybe 4. I want to get a kitten but DH won't let me. Ha, ha fooled him, we're getting silkies.

wheezy ~ That does seem early. Maybe it's a new strategy to market them for Valentine's Day in addition to Easter! I think that our "Chick Days" sales at RK begin in early March.

As a long-time baby chick stalker I can confirm that TSC, and Orscheln have both had them in Feb in the past. Can't say about RK, as I've only been there once.

Seems like we always get snow mid-way through the NCAA, so it does seem a little early for this area. I bet it has something to do with what kind of deal they can get from the hatcheries.

When I ordered our chicks I told DH we could wait until the feed store in town (just local) got their chicks, and have a whole flock of sex links, but they'd be full-sized. He took a look at the pics of the birds I was getting and said "Nope, get what you're getting."

Then he told me last night he was afraid he "might not like the chickens." After all signs pointing to the opposite! LOL I told him "That's kind of like that time I said I was afraid I might not like Disney World!"

I have a question for those of you that process your own chickens. Do any of you have a plucker? Getting the feathers off is the most time consuming part for me, and it makes for a long day when you are by yourself. I've looked on Craigslist to see if anyone has one for rent, but haven't seen anything. I've got a batch of birds coming up on their 'one bad day', and I'm going to buy one. I'm thinking of offering it for rent also to help get back some of the cost.

Have any of you ever thought of renting or bartering for one when you have a bunch of roos to process? I'm buying it regardless, but wanted to see if my thought process matched up with others.

I could totally see this enabling my chicken math......."Sure you can use my plucker, just give me a dozen eggs/chicks of xxxxxxx....." lol.

I saw a DIY on Pinterest but I didn't read it because I'm not doing chix for meat. There seem to be a lot of instructables for this kind of stuff, too. I think if you search Pinterest for a plucker you might find one.

I have seen one listed one the Indy Craigslist occasionally for rent. Not sure if it worked for them, but it could see a huge benefit by doing it.

I've seen their add; it's in Noblesville. I seriously considered renting it when we processed last summer. The whole Craigslist thing makes me nervous though.

Racin- if you're going to buy one and rent it out let me know. I'll have 15 birds to process the beginning of May!! Even with help it makes for a long day!

If I could figure out the actual killing part, I'd be happy to rent it for plucking. Its all part of my long term plan for personal growth. How much are they?

I have an odd question for everyone, I'm going to try hatching eggs of frizzle Cochin bantams, I may keep a rooster, I currently have 4 EEs, what would be the outcome of breeding if they are kept together? And I have to be careful of frizzle on frizzle crossing as well right?

Just one more note about yesterday and then I will try to pipe down until we get results. I really appreciate the thought of help more than actual help M2H. I wouldn't have been able to have physical help from anyone who actually had chickens. I would not want to put anyone else's chickens at risk for helping one that was already gone. Biosecurity has become increasingly important and interesting to me lately.

We don't mind your posts at all, it really helps to talk out your thoughts. Sharing your experiences will help all of us.
Very good point on biosecurity! I know sometimes visitors feel I may be abrupt, but am really hesitant to invite anyone into my coops.
Reading about some of the respiratory illnesses, it scares me even more.

We are definitely building one next month. The "whizbang"! I see one for rent in noblesville a lot.
We may rent it once to see if its really that good (better than sore stiff hands am sure!) Probably not tho.
