Just throwing this out there again. I'm planing on heading to see Littleameraucanamom this Sunday to pick up chicks. I will be traveling 69 south from Warren to 70 west towards Greencastle. I will be stopping around pendleton as well as the east side of Indy (likely somewhere around 465 and 70). If you need something transported get on touch with me. I also have a couple silkie chicks left I could sell if anyone is wanting any. Depending on when they hatch and dry out, I may have some day olds I could bring as well. They are due to hatch tomorrow/Sunday.

Just . . . hmm . . . for curiosity, what are the colors of the two silkies already hatched?

Whatever it is I want more! The feathers are very soft.
Really like this lil guy, super friendly, calm and just sweet.
My GLW have very stiff feathers. nothing like this. Lot like an orpingtons.

jchny~ That was my first thought! I just happened to be looking through some old photos of my original RIR "pullets" that Lauren bought at RK in March 2012. That's when 5 out of 6 turned out being roos. And you know that we still have our original only female RIR --Nene!
The photo below is the day we moved them from the brooder--lol-- We thought (duh) Gee, they grow fast!

Then we moved them to the large dog crate while the coop was being built.

Finally, (when they started looking like roosters!), we started wondering if something was up with our "pullets." lol Well, RK said they were pullets! Haha
Although we had been reading books, it wasn't until around that time that I started checking out BYC. Thank goodness!
You can tell that the roo on the right didn't have his green tail feathers yet.


I thought the pics of RIRs at different stages might help you identify yours.

That's unusual! Usually no one wants roos. Where did yours come from? Nene has the most personality, that's for sure. She moves at least twice as fast as the other hens. Really hyper, inquisitive, and she can be loud when begging. Nene is sweet to people and she's smart. She also gets distracted and wanders off-- she's the one who ended up across and down the street! Those RIR roos can get really big, but they are beautiful. Is that what your Red was?
