It seems that we hear about a lot of young birds having heart and/or kidney failure too which makes it impossible for them to fight off any other issue. I think part of the problem with this is the poor breeding in the large hatcheries.
I think that is a very GOOD point. Thousands of interbred birds being pumped out.
I don't know if they select or just ship them, guessing its whatever has all its digits and is alive?
I have had good luck with the birds I've got from the 2 hatcheries, but I really prefer a breeder raised background for my birds.
My Bourbon Red turkey pair are from a local family thats raised and bred them for nearly 30 years.
I am still very impressed on how deep and pure the colors are, calm and sweet temperaments.
They have black spanish too. Very tempted to get some this fall!
