INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Trying to stay warm this morning is pretty easy when you have two dogs on your lap!

FYI- Rural King in Martinsville had one tank of mixed breed straight run chicks when I was there Sunday. They had several other tanks set up with lights turned on so I would guess they're expecting more chicks this week. TSC in Plainfield isn't expecting chicks until the end if this month or the beginning of March.

Despite the cold temps my chickies were happy to get outside in the sunshine some yesterday. I spread some hay over the snow and they went right out!

We seems to have our first cold of the season starting here as well. DD woke up all congested with a runny nose this morning :(

SO excited to get my seed order placed this week! I'm trying to narrow down my list some but it's not working to well. If I'm not careful I'll be over run by veggies and chickens!! ;)

CRSelvey ~ Because of bradselig's and kaphyper's constant posts of adorable silkies, I fell for them. I just love the three silkies from brad. They look like little chicks in jammies with feet on them. Meanwhile Kiniska's Eng Orps are feathering beautifully although we're a little concerned about the giant blue/black one because if "she" isn't a roo, she's a turkey, or California Condor! haha He/she is very funny because she likes to act like she's in charge since she's the largest, but she's actually kind of a fraidy cat! haha I need to take some new pics tomorrow of all of them.
Dreamwalker ~ She is very cute! What kind of frizzle is she? Is she molting or just unique?
I think Olivia is just unique. With her hatchmates they was 5 with frizzie feathers. And the other 7 ended up with silkie feathers. The mom was silkie and the daddy frizzle. The others got big but she never grew any bigger. She did have feathers when she was younger. But she molted and they never grew back. She had been with the silkies thru last summer. But when I had to cage for winter. She was so small they just ran her over.So I seperated her to make sure she was safe. But she is just so sweet. My grdaughter packs her around in her shirt pocket with her head sticking out.She fits perfect!

Maybe she is a frazzle. They result from breeding frizzle to frizzle. Which is not a good idea. If the people you got the eggs from had a frizzle rooster andpullets it is very possible. Frazzles are poorly feathered just like your girl. Sometimes they act like they are in pain when you touch them, but not always. They can not take hot or cold well at all. Our winters and our summers would kill them if they were not brought inside or given supplement heat.

Seems like everyone is getting sick, including me! Hope everyone who is sick gets better soon and anyone that isn't sick stays that way.

I'm on day three of the Plague - the -15 degree temps are not great on sick lungs! To add to my day, my pipes froze. My neighbor is also going out of town tomorrow and I am adding more outside critters to my daily list while I house-sit. I didn't know I would be sick when I agreed and I don't want to put her on the spot trying to find someone else at the last minute. I'm hoping I'm feeling at least a bit better tomorrow and the temps should be a bit warmer, which will help.

On the bright side the weather is going to get heavenly next week! I am going to be putting together my greenhouse in the next week or so and am going to start thinking about getting some plants started! Woohoo!!

I am on day two.I am searching the web lol. I dont feel like actually doing anything. Frozen picks stink! Not fun at all. Hope you feel better tomorrow. Maybe the weather people will actually be right and maybe I can get some stuff done. I have a really long mental list of things I need to get done. Now when it comes time to do that stuff I will probably forget half of it. I plan on having a large garden this year, compared to previous years tiny gardens. I want to have lots of fresh veggies for the chickens. I am going to grow all sorts of stuff this year. I plan on trying okra, heard chickens really like it.
