INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I love your pics. SFs are on my wish list too. My little bantam Ameraucana lays the best eggs. I wish we had a couple more bantams.
My red sex-link laid extra large brown eggs and my GLW laid large brown eggs all winter. They each gave me 5-6 per week.
Im so sorry about her injuries. That poor baby.

Well it's not an injury after all I found another one just like her and this afternoon MJ's has spread to the other side of her face. and I have others that are showing some same signs. So UPSET.

I have a question, I am considering using very diluted kool aid or food coloring and bathing my white silkies so I can tell them apart. I was unaware that there could be a law against doing that. I'm not sure why seeing that it is harmless and they love baths and blow dries. They don't know they are a different color. :) Any advice for my fellow Indiana peeps?

Raisenemright, I am thinking of going into tsc for a few more laying hens. I really only want 4 pullets, you want to maybe go in on the six chick minimum with me and take the other two? Since we live in the same town and all lol.

Thanks. I just got my first egg from my bantam AM the other day. I believe we got ours from the same person, littleameraucanamom.

Yes we did! Her eggs are a beautiful blue and the yolk are quite large for such a small egg. Love them. She took a long time to make friends but after a long cold winter, she and my AS girl spend a lot of time together. I went out a lot of nights and stuck them in between my other birds when they were sleeping so they could get the extra warmth.

Congratulations on your purchase. Have you ever considered quick dry nail polish or an ankle bracelet? I can't tell my three Cochins apart and it drives me crazy. One is different right now because the big feathers on her rump appear to have been taken off by someone. Considering how grumpy they are, it's probably my rooster.

I don't want to use leg bands or chemicals. I also thought they would be so cute in the spring colored like little flowers. I know Im silly.

This is the pic I found online that gave me the idea.

@kabhyper1Is it illegal to dye chickens? My friend grooms professionally and sometimes she dyes her own dogs. She uses food coloring, which is perfectly safe. I think the professional Wilton gel dyes are the best/most concentrated.
I would think if you were doing it FOR FUN and NOT FOR PROFIT, then you should be able to do it. I'd love to dye my dogs/cats/birds... but they are all dark and as a hair stylist I am rather keen to the idea to begin with.

Your in the Whitley area? I'm ok with that I'm probably gonna get a few more but if you want to just get a few you sure can add them to my count! Let me know

Ya, I am pretty sure it is illegal to dye chicks under the age of 8 weeks. You aren't Even suppose to use blue-kote. But using food coloring (not actual dye as some do) really won't hurt them. It will just be like a colored bath to them. But it does ware off over time, just not exactly sure how long. I think the only way you can get in trouble I if you sell them colored to someone, but then they would have to "tell on you", and I can't see you really getting in trouble for just using food coloring. It is harmless. I don't think using food coloring is a big deal, I say go for it. I just don't like when people use chemicals as it can be harmful. :)

Yeah it would only be the adult white hens. I don't know if I could resist taking loads of pictures of them and telling on myself lol. I'm sure if they molt or get wet it would come right off. I would never ever dye chicks. I am not selling them either, its just for cuteness and Identification.

My 5 week olds! They are getting big. They don't sleep under momma anymore and she has been laying eggs in the brooder box, so I think it's about time to put her back with the flock so I can bond with them a little bit. They aren't as mellow as the last hatch.
