Thanks! I'm not crazy about the mess I am about to receive, but they are precious. They are finally sleeping and being quiet. Smart little turds. They have figured out I will come when they peep and then run up my arm trying to escape.

The mess is a bit easier to contain if the water platform can be used. Here is a link to a written description:

We need to make something for our ducklings still but we are using a pallet for the water platform for our 2 adult ducks.

Can you post some photos of your CCL, please?
Here's what I have. I'll try to get some better ones.

This is my roo Merlin

These are the two hens

another pic of the girls. All the other hens in the pen lay other color eggs, so no chance of mix up.

Not a great pic of Merlin. His tail used to look better, then he free ranged with Turkeys......

Let me know if you have questions.

I caved. I plan on getting my pullets friday, but I couldn't resist these two little ones. They were the smallest in the brooder, and getting ran over, soooo I brought them home. Just two of them, I think they are khaki campbell, but I really don't know. They were straight run all breeds. I guess it will be a surprise. :) We are giving them flock raiser and poly vi sol for niacin, is there anything else they need? I am completely dumb when it comes to ducks. They have a little stuffed doggy in the brooder and they love it. One little guys will not shut up. Omgoodness, its a loud one. :love

So we are both duck moms too now huh!

Here are our newest babies (rabbits). They were born yesterday.

My daughter bred one of our blue Silver Fox does to her solid white New Zealand buck. We didn't think she was going to have babies, but she ended up popping out 2, which is a really small litter. The pure silver fox are solid blue or black with silver ticking. These babies are black with otter-ish markings -- white bellies and chins & white down part of the legs. It will be fun to see how they grow out. Of course the understanding with this cross is that they are strictly meat rabbits or if one is a doe to use it for meat breeding. Any rabbit that leaves our barn to a new home (other than freezer camp) must be a purebred. (Too many people have bred who knows what into the Silver Fox breed and then selling the offspring -- some weird things have been known to pop up in this breed!)

Babies!!! Little bunnies can melt your heart. Very good lesson for the kids, teaches good planning and husbandry.

One of my black oeb's finally laid its first egg of the year. So excited!

congrats!

Quote: WOW just gorgeous!

Quote: I like the camp grounds idea for the extra activities. Something like brown county park where there are playgrounds for my children. But processing demonstrations might not go over well at a park or campgrounds.

Quote: I also thought of a fairgrounds, maybe the county fair grounds would not cost too much to rent out a pavilion. I'm close to the one in Franklin or Columbus, IN.
Hoping our campground will work out. There is a large barn for gatherings, and the owner's grandson has chickens himself right now. Nice little playground onsite, right by the barn too. There are 3 state parks close, Quakertown/Brookville Lake and Whitewater. Links:

We will get in touch with the owner this week, going to have DH call him... fingers crossed.

I would be really bad about that... ugh. I rehomed mine, she was much too aggressive. She went to a guy DH works with that loves the breed.
I made him well aware she is NOT a friendly doe. Going to look into it more late spring, and probably go with florida whites.

I was able to find some joy in this awful day thought I would share it with you. Back story, I noticed the chicks were acting bored, so I put a few perches in ant different heights as I have different ages in one of the brooders. The first to try them out was my Dare-Devil Welsummer, BTW she is also the youngest in this brooder. The the oldest ( 1 of the injured ISA Browns from RK ) and then the biggest of DH's Lt. Brahmas, and so on and so on. yes I noticed I had 1 perch up to high but I didn't think the little ones would get on it. So I put them all down on the same level, and they were way too nosy about the heat lamp, so it is now on the outside of brooder.
