My hubby is being a helicopter dad to the ducklings. I told him they are his, and apparently I am handling them too much. HA! For someone who couldn't give two hoots about the chickens, he sure is attentive to those two ducks. :smack :gig

AHHHHH! My husband was exactly the same way!!!!! I could smuggle in 80 chicks and he would never care, let alone look at them. The ducklings? He was all over them... I'm pretty sure he even coo'ed at them while giving them their first warm bath, then gently wrapping them in a towel while we sat on our couch together to watch a movie...

Curtis that was me. I got ducklings. They have totally different body types and stances. Could one be a runner or a swedish? They didnt have runner ducks on the list but he sure acts like one.
i was told mine were runners they did stand straight upward like runners. As they got older there stance changed. And as their colors. They are great with my chickens. I never seen my drake try to mate with any chicken hens. I got mine from rural king. They had them marked as runners. I was very displeased once i figured out they was not. They do the same thing with EE's. They say they are Ameraucana. But the khakis are a great breed. My only complaint is they are very very messy. They fling water every where. I use kiddie pools. I can fill it up and within a hour the same water is gone and its just a big mud pit from them bathing in it.

This my son and one of our rescued chickens. This bird LOVES to be held. She follows us around like a dog. She has really deformed feet from the cruel way she was kept, but it doesn't stop her from hanging on to hoods, packpacks, hair... whatever
chickengroomer (and your son and rescued chickens!) ~ Welcome to the Indiana Thread!! Where did you rescue the chickens from?
Please look on page 2284 for information about the Indiana Thread.

Hey all I've got a friend who's daughters bird got frostbite on its feet.
I did I bit of research and told her to soak them in warm salt water. (I really hope I didn't give her wrong information!) But would you guys have any advice for me please? I feel bad if I give her wrong info.

minmin~ My gosh! You had better slow down. I'm so sorry to hear about your daughter's health and wish her a speedy recovery. I'm glad your round trip from W.Va. to Indiana was safe and filled with poultry.

I have a few crummy, out of focus photos. I can identify with chick rookie whose new chicks are wild. My chicks typically act like I'm one who can't be trusted even though I wait on them hand and foot, clean up constantly, feed them, make sure they have toys and their favorite channel during TV time lol, and have let them have dust baths that have resulted in the room being coated with dirt. They have calmed down since I started feeding them live mealworms or small crickets from my hand each evening. I sit on the floor and lean down so I'm not so Godzilla-like, but they still find me untrustworthy.

So, all of that explanation describes why I have a few crummy photos. If anyone can possibly tell sexes, please speak up. I keep meaning to take photos during the day with natural light.

The Silkies (from bradselig) and English Orps (from Kiniska) are both six and a half weeks old. Last time I mentioned their age, I was off a week, but I re-checked my calendar. My blue orp, "The Rooster" refused to stand still to pose this evening.

Splash Silkie with mealworm.

Splash with one of the blues

The other blue that has a lighter back

Quote: Didn't know about the medicated feed...uh oh!!! Had t run n take it away!!! What happens if they eat it??? And why brewers yeast? What's with niacin??? Oh dear!
It should be ok just for tonight, but not long term. My youngest DD made the same mistake, and those ducks are 2 years old now..

could someone PM me (because I may not see it posted here sometimes I miss a day or too and find it impossible to catch up) if they know of a local source for a electric for a whiz bang. I have been toying with the idea of building one, but Rural king in Martinsville told me they don't carry electric motors (was there today and 3 people who work there all stared at me when I asked in a way I thought I had grown a coupe of extra heads) they told me that they carried sprayer motors, I tod them that wouldn't work, also they tried selling me a roto tiller motor I told them that wouldn't work either.

Prayers to you, DD and your family.
Glad you made it home safely, babies are adorable!

Okay, so why is it when I google khaki campbell ducks, the legs are all yellow? My ducklings have black legs. Could they be black swedish? Those are the only 2 breeds tsc carries that would look like them. They also carry pekin, rouen, and mallard. I know they aren't any of those.
Sometimes they have runners also, and I saw cayuga there once about 2 years ago... That is one breed I still want!
