Oh my, they are just too precious! I would say a definite YES.
I am watching for CX, haven't seen any around here yet. Think I will only do maybe 20 or so at a time.Columbus RK has lots of chicks lots of variety. A few are clearly over a week old. They are selling black sex linked chicks as straight run but at $2 each. Still it would be simple enough for a person to study some pictures on google and sort out the females. Then there are 2 different bins that each have what I think are the left over chicks from prior shipments. Those are being sold as mixed straight run. Each of these bins had barred rock females in them. The one bin looked to be about 3/4 weeks old and combs were turning red for some of the chicks with tiny tails, indicating a good chance of those chicks being roosters.
But for the majority of the bins, the chicks had come in today. There was a banty straight run mixed bin, Isa Browns, Cornish Cross, multiple bins of what I call Easter Eggers but RK calls by fancier names, RIR, and a few others. There was a bin set up for straight run mixed breed ducks but no ducklings yet.
So lily's swollen eyes and sinus' are back. I am fairly certain it is the dust from being in the den. No one else ever has an issue when I deep clean the room. The last two times I have opened the window to deep clean and it got very dusty, she got this. So back to the eye drops and Tylan. I'm only going to do 3 day's this time and see how she does. I need spring time, and she needs fresh air!aww, I am so sorry. I am having issues with the same turkey hen also.![]()
I may have to keep her separated longer until I can figure out whats happening to her.
I am starting tylan injections tomorrow and nip it quick, need to see what her weight is.
Congrats on the hen! I am really pleased too, this sportsman has really been great on the quail hatches. lot more eggs developed on this first batch, and are just a few days from lockdown! (March 3) Also, tonite locked down my BCM eggs from Trey (on ebay). I always have good hatches from his eggs, so I am really hopeful on these. He sent 15!Finally! Batch 2 has hatched. 4/4, and two are legbars and 1 is a female! Not having much luck ratio-wise with the leg bar hatches so far: 5 boys to 1 girl. Hoping my luck has turned. There are 4 legbars in batch 3 that should start to hatch tomorrow. That one also has a lot of shipped eggs. It will be interesting to see their hatch percentage. Then 4 more eggs in batch 4, including an HRIR from SallyinIN.
As far as hatching goes, I am LOVINGmy Sportsman. Absolutely no issues. Holds temps perfectly, and humidity runs 45% with just water in the pan and 68-70% with two wicks added. I don't know how it could be easier. I just go to work with pipped eggs and come home to chicks! Its a good thing too, as I didn't time the final hatches very well. I will be leaving on a trip on Saturday, and our nephew will be house sitting and will have to watch over the final hatches. I'll be texting him constantly.........![]()
Hopefully your nephew will send you good reports and lots of pics!
