INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Pyrenees is probably the breed we are going to go with.

Thanks, I should have remembered that!

GP's are great, they are awesome with every critter I have on the place, they are great family dogs, I pitty the fool that ever breaks into this house, BUTT............... YOU NEED REAL GOOD FENCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They are RUNNERS !!!!!! Only stating my opinion based on my experiences.

GP or Maremma.....

I was thinking the GPs may have a hard time of it in those heavy coats in the summer here in IN.

Does anyone know if the Maremma are less of a "runner"? I've heard so much good about them. And, incidentally, ACRES MAGAZINE is focused on poultry this month and also did a review article on the Maremma if anyone is interested.

I subscribe to Acres but you can usually get a cc at Tractor Supply or any of the farm stores that have magazines.

Nice to know there's someone in my area! Where are you??
We're out by Kercher's orchards. pm me & I can give you a more detailed location

GP's do just fine in the IN summers. I had one several years back but he didn't come home one day. My mom has his brother and is turning 13 next month! Old for the breed. .unfortunately his age is really showing. Now she has another and buying a third soon. They have around 300 acres in Ellettsville which is basically Bloomington. He's a bus! But such a good dog..never heard anything bad of the true breeds other than u will need fencing if you don't own a lot of land.
Here's a pic of Marley!

I have 2 males and 1 has a hole in his heart, he is the only 1 that has any trouble, and as long as I let him in the house to cool himself when hot, he does just fine. My dogs are full blooded. But we are going to shave them this year, was told by our vet that it may help the bad heart one more.

Here are the "older" chicks. All of them are still under a month old.

Black Modern Game Bantams

Cuckoo Silkies

Splash Modern Game Bantam

Black silkies (the one in back is a frizzled)

The White silkies. The "splash" from Kabhyper is feathering out solid white.

Partridge silkies and showgirl
