INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

She has been on here a long time. I have seen her thoughts on other threads and feel she knows what she's talking about!
I look for cracks when candling, you can usually see them. And I mark porous eggs. Those rarely hatch.
Hairline cracks, u can seal with a crayon (CAREFULLY) and it will sometimes save the egg.
I hold the crayon in my hand a while so it gets pretty warm, and then "paint" the crack.
Watch the sealed crack in case its at pip line, it may cause the chick problems hatching. This has worked a few times!

It looks perfect to me, they aren't piled up. So sweet!

I do, but I can't :( I have to get coops rebuilt before I add anymore, My egg coop has me worried sick.
I moved the majority of my egg flock to the growout coop until the roof is repaired.
I am really concerned about predators. The roof is falling in, DH says we can just re-roof, ugh I hate ladders :(

Thank you! I may hit you all up again once they arrive and I check them over! I swore I'd never spend money like that on something sooo risky but I just could not resist. Even if I get just one nice Roo out of them I'll be thrilled! With losing 2 already and reading horror stories of others with their one good breeding roo losses it scares me to death! I feel so fortunate to have him as they are really hard to come by...a good one that is. He has such a great build and body type I dread the day! I've experienced a lot of losses myself. Oddly enough with my roos..regardless the breed. They've been picked off grown and young. .just shocking when I sit and count all the different instances!

Quote: When my roof broke open I knew we would have problems. DH said we will cover it with chain link and tarp till weather allows us to re-roof. It was awful, last warmup, sure enough raccoons got in and took a lavender orp hen and a BA hen. The LO just broke my heart, what a sweet girl, she was never afraid of anything and very loving. Our electric fence was damaged as well as the top of the pen from the weight of the snow. Its just a mess, so I have to rebuild the whole thing! Its times like this you ask if its worth it all.

Ok...next..
I really hate to put more eggs in the fridge! Girls are laying machines at the moment and I have Wayyy to many in there! Anyone interested in hatching eggs
BCM
AM
mixes or BCM Roo over Golden Cuckoo Marans?
Again bator is already full .. not hatching til 3/13ish and that's just too long to hold before my next batch.

O and forgot to add to that my BCM roo over Blue Marans hen too. She's a beaut! Great lacing and very large eggs.

I just candles my eggs and a see a handful of duds in the 42 but I set 2 AM 1 Golden Cuckoo Marans 5Blue Marans/BCM and 34 BCM!! Looking great! I just set them a week ago Sunday so..day 10.. babes wigglin' all around! Love it! Need to get my list of folks together so I have an idea of how many I actually get to keep for myself!

Lovely color and HUGE! whats it weight?

I've never weighed them but they really are huge! My mom works as a hairstylist and I sell eating eggs to ladies there and they just can't get over them! Plenty are so big it makes it difficult to close the carton. I am going to get a scale though for my next hatching because I've read so much about how that seems to really ensure you get proper weight loss during incubation. Let me grab a few for pic comparison. Fun..
