Oh my gosh. This might be way better than building that smaller one, then.

When I put the shed on my property I will need some kind of base wouldn't I? How do I do that??

What are the dimensions of the shed? If the shed doesn't currently have a floor and is made of wood, I'd probably set it on a ring of cement blocks to keep it off the ground. I would recommend either construction sand or deep litter for a floor.

I'd be willing to donate my time to help!  I think going bigger is better, they will be happier and you will be prepared for chicken math when it next strikes!  You will already have the space!  You can still divide the shed into separate pens or pens/storage if you want.

Yay!!! The shed is in Whiteland and I am in Lawrence. This will be great. I told the guy to hold the shed and I will go buy some paint I think. Here's the shed lol. It's a bit sad but for 100$ I can't argue.

Lol I hope chicken math doesn't strike too much more. I think my neighbors will kill me just wait til you see my back yard lol. The shed will take up a good portion of it.

If we can't find a way to move it maybe the people willing to help could help me figure out how to build the coop I got plans for.

That dang shed is 12 feet tall too, so I'm gonna have to paint it a more reasonable color instead of the purple I wanted :/ sadface. Are we going to be able to cut windows into for ventilation?

When we decided to get chickens for the first time one year ago & considered different coop plans & such , we utimately decided on a resin shed - just in case we ended up not liking chickens (ends up we do tho

) & would be able to use the shed for . . . a shed. Here's what we started with:

after i cut the window size, i stuffed newspaper about 4 to 6 inches inside the wall shell & drilled holes to foam the remaining openings for insulating & support

stapled 1/4" hardware cloth on window frames , so there is double layer

Lets face it - sometimes as a 'Chicken' Person, you sometimes feel on your own, either literally or figuratively. Many chicken owners are single, and others are not blessed with a significant other that 'gets it'. My own partner is very supportive of my hobby, but regards most chicken related work as "my thing'. This means something like building a coop or a run can be a bit overwhelming if you have to do it on your own.

There has been discussion on the Indiana thread of people getting together to help each other out on major projects. I'm starting this thread so we can use it to communicate, discuss, decide, plan, and coordinate that work. We definitely don't want to exclude our other Indiana BYCers, but recognize that some live far from Indy and that we have a critical mass of people close enough here to be able to possibly make this work. We also don't want to clutter up the general Indiana BYC thread with chatter that is specific to the Co-Op. So subscribe if you would like, and let the teamwork begin!!

This would work really well from what people are saying. It looks like it just needs a little paint and some trim. Of course I'd need to figure out a bottom...

I posted in the new Co-op thread but I am volunteering DH for loading.

I'm hoping to finish up the interior in the coop in prep for moving the little's into their new pallet palace. I'm also going to make a makeshift run so they can get used to coming and going. I'll keep my bigger girls doing what they do for now. (We are down to 4 layers?? Missing one for a few days. Just up and gone?!?) I'll need to he done nesting boxes built before I move the layers into it. What age should I expect eggs from my new chicks? I have. EE'ers, JG, BR, BO, Black Australorp's, RIR, WLH, Blue Cochins, SLW, GLW, Birchen Marans, I think that's it lol. Any ideas when each of these breeds start to lay?

If they came from a hatchery / feed store the RIR and BR typically start around 20-24 weeks. But they will need a good 5-7 days of 16 hours of light to really get in high production mode and stay there. So if you are running tight on time limit their lights and that should delay the eggs a bit. Since a chicken is hatched with a set number of eggs you will just be delaying the eggs not losing eggs.
