So, you know how when you bring your first baby home, by the second day you're sure it has cancer, but then your doctor tells you that babies usually loose a bunch of hair the first week and everything's fine?
Today I've gone from being sure these birds are almost dead to being mostly sure they're just suffering from less than ideal feed and housing. So ya, feeling a bit like a silly new parent.
Don't get me wrong, I don't consider these chickens my babies. I'm going to eat them some day, each and every one. Of course, some days with my 2-year-old son make me wonder if I shouldn't eat him, too.
I did call the seller, and he said he'd take them back any time, full refund, no problem. So that's nice. He said a few other things about chicken health and habits that told me clearly that he doesn't know nearly as much as he thinks he does... and as always I concede that I'm a rank amateur. But I've at least done the reading.
Someone mentioned posting the seller's info as a warning to others but I don't think I will. in my business, it's considered unethical to badmouth another shop's work. Yo just tell the pilot what you find wrong, and its up to him to know where he's taken his plane and who screwed it up. So here's what I'll say. if anyone is thinking of doing business with a chicken person in Indianapolis, read back through my account and make your own call. I won't be going back there.
So wish me luck, Lord willing it will all have been much ado about nothing.
oh, and just so I'm perfectly, absolutely clear, the chickens I got from LonelyPageTurne are not the ones I'm having trouble with. LPT's birds are clean, healthy, and happy, and I would not hesitate to go back to her for more.
That's all I have to say about that.
