@hoosiercheetah I came up with this idea and I think you should run with it.
I want a farm robo. Like robo cop or inspector gadget stuff. Something that I can control much like a remote control car or maybe those newer video games where I do the motions and it does the work. Something that could do all of the chicken chores including carrying 2 large 5 gallon buckets of water and checking a broody hen for chicks. It would need to look like the Big Boy from that cheeseburger place. It would need to cost little to nothing for the proto types and have a million saftey features like no stepping on tiny chicks. A video relay too so I would not need to be outside to see what it is seeing. Maybe it could have the option to plow snow and clear snow out of the run as well as once a year it would take care of the deep litter.
Yes, I'm sure you could do it and have fun. For me the project would frustrate me with the changes and prototypes but you, you could become a millionaire by inventing the mechanical farm hand (needs a better marketing name though).
All joking aside, I think a custom door would be great. When the time comes for us to get rid of the pool and set up lots of small runs for the breeding pens, I'll be contacting you. I want a fancy light sensor with timer options and multiple doors all tied to the same programming device located in the nice climate controlled person house.
