INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

If you don't mind my asking, what's leaking exactly? I know someone else mentioned being a fair hand at plumbing, and I are one too, so if you want any help or advice on making your repair, I'd by happy to do anything I can!

You might not want to make that offer!!!! I may totally take you up on that and would pay you! It is leaking from the faucett into the shower/tub combo, the faucett when turned to the off position is not shutting the water all the way off. It was a fairly bad stream last night but had slowed to a fast drip this morning. These are pics after I had taken the nozzle off. It is a delta faucet. The plumber I talked to last night said it sounded like the gasket needed to be replaced and thought it would take about an hour to do.

This is a pretty easy fix. I have never done tubs but a few sink faucets. Its best to take the faucet apart and remove the gasket and then go to a hardware store, home center or a plumbing parts house and find the correct replacement.

For anyone else who was curious, those shower/tub valves have a one-piece cartridge that you can remove and replace. That's the repair for this type of leak. The cartridges are readily available. It is definitely a good idea to take the old one into lowe's to make sure you get the right replacement.

ETA I'm partial to Lowe's because they give a 10% discount to military and veterans, and I are one.

HoosierCheetah sent me directions and the part he thinks I need. I usually attempt to do these types of things myself first so I may try it tonight. I do have a handy neighbor I just feel bad asking for help. I know if I get in a real bind he will help me.

Funny story (oh the lives of single women), I had a leaking toilet in my last house and youtubed how to make the repair. It involved sticking my arms down the back of the toilet and messing with all sorts of hardware. Prior to my leak I had put one of those blue cleaning tablets in the back of the toilet. There was blue water EVERYWHERE and by the time I was done with my repair my arms were stained blue all the way past my elbows for a good week.....I looked like a smurf, true story.

My home repair exploits never go super smoothly, but I am successful most of the time. ETA (hoosiercheetah style) that i never again bought those blue toilet tablets. You just never know when your hands are going to be all up in there and it aint easy being blue.

HA! I love it!

But for future reference, the way around that is to shut off the water line to the toilet first, then flush it. You might have to reach down to the bottom of the tank one time to pull up the flapper, if your chain is broken or something, but once the tank is empty it won't refill.

I have some septic system repair stories I could tell... but this is an all-ages crowd.

We live just north of the fairgrounds and there's three of us chicken keepers on my road. My roos get into crowing contests with the neighbors sometimes even though they're a fair ways down the road

That's so cool! I'm west of the high school and housing addition. We're just outside of the city limits, but I still have lots of neighbors. No one on my little stretch of road has any chickens (yet) but I can always hear a rooster crowing just on the other side of the hill. That's funny that the roos get into crowing contests. I'm planning on keeping one of my roos- I wonder if I'll get to hear that as well. I can't wait to find out!

Easy fix but I'm almost positive my Dh would get the plumbing tape and just start wrapping, much like fixing a hole with duct tape. Then when the tape did not hold the repair would no longer be simple and Dh would just cave and say call a plumber. Then finally once the repair was done Dh would say something along the lines of, I could have done that why did you pay a plumber.
I know this because this is exactly what he did with our plumping repair in the basement. I have now asked him to put a drain pond in the front yard this fall. And I'm not caving, there will be no plumber, so no why did you pay a plumber questions.

So, I started tracking my hens' egg output on a spreadsheet. I started on the 15th so I don't have enough data yet to really say much about trends. However, I think one of my black orps is a pretty consistent layer (Anne B.) , and the other seems to be not so much (Cathrine H.) I hope I'm not short-changing Cathrine. I'm pretty sure I can tell the difference between their eggs, and I know Cathrine is the one who was laying at night. Since I removed the poop board under the roost, there haven't been any more midnight eggs. Her eggs tend to be slightly larger but slightly pear-shaped.

It's gonna be a real mess when I have ten hens to keep track of. I'm already thinking about giving up on it.

ETA Queen Penelope is a metronome. Four days on, one day off. You could set your sundial by her.

I did it for a while and then gave up. It is a worthy goal for sure but when life get's busy or you are late somewhere it gets really easy to get out of the habit of logging, and only logging some days seems pointless for tracking return on investment. Plus it gets even more depressing when they moult or go on strike in the winter when you can actually SEE how bad production is.
