Upon closer examination (now that I know what to look for) Ariel definitely has a crop problem. I think its sour rather than impacted, because of the squishyness.
I massaged it for a few minutes, and she didn't try to get away. She closed her eyes and made a gurgling noise. I swear she smiled.
Later I saw her vomiting. I've got her isolated with fresh water now. I'll change it in the morning and keep her off food all day.
I hope the flock doesn't kill or maim the new birds. They spent several hours this afternoon stuffing themselves with clover and ants, so hopeful everyone will be too full and tired to fight much. It could happen. I'll check on them again in a bit.
I use crumbles and built the little guard on the front to keep them from pulling the feed out. There is still some spillage, but a lot less!!! I actually prefer the pellets but feed flock raiser to everyone (with oyster shell on the side for the laying ladies) and tractor supply only carries it in the crumbles.
Love this pic. It is like a little chicken and duck town! Looks so much more fun than just having a barn. I am jealous lol
