INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

The bees won't help your corn. Corn is wind pollinated, that is why most people plant corn in blocks instead of long rows. However, you can take the tassel, and hand pollinate the silks to help get some good ears.

Boy do I feel like a dodo! I knew that bees didn't pollinate corn, guess I was being hopeful their flying around the corn all day would help somehow. My neighbors have corn so that might help, but it looks like if nothing else I can pollinate them myself. Thanks for pointing this out! :)

This is a Bantam Old English game, (red pyle) hen. She isn't fully matured yet, and her comb is very small.
They are AWESOME moms.
jchny~ CRSelvey is going to take my two Red Pyle OEGB pullets and my Wheaton OEGB roo-- the ones that hatched from the eggs you gave me for my broody Bonbon. As you know, I want to rehome them since my space is limited. I hadn't even asked her because I knew she'd been looking for LF laying hens since her DH has been wondering why she has so many chickens, but not many eggs. Since logic doesn't prevail when raising chickens, and CRSelvey loves OEGBs, she's going to adopt mine-- next month when her DH is out of town!!

Shhhh!

Here's a puzzle for someone to solve. Sneezing , loss of depth perception, occasional runny eyes, lethargy. Im leaning toward inner ear issues, and am giving tylan. If anyone else has an idea , Id love to hear it. Thanks.:)
kabhyper~ So sorry you're dealing with a sick chicken! What's the breed, sex, and age? In my "Chicken Health for Dummies" book, these are illnesses that include sneezing and runny eyes, so all symptoms not apply to your chicken, but you can google the names to find out more.

Infectious coryza -- described as a sudden occurrence as you mentioned to jchny
Mycoplasmosis
Infectious Bronchitis
Newcastle disease -- mild to severe forms
Marek's disease -- CRSelvey has experience

We missed you at Chickenfest! You're one of our regular, long-term members. Hope to meet you in person some day!

What a let down! Sounds very unlike any poulty barn I've been to at a fair. Even at our dinky fair there were a lot of birds, properly classified and cleaned up. Only thing I noticed was the cornish crosses were way past their prime and looked uncomfortably large. Not sure how far away Elkhart is from you, but their fair, as PeacefulWalls can attest, is AMAZING and well worth the drive. It is one of the largest 4H fairs in the entire country and even own 4hfairs.org domain.
I have to agree the Elkhart 4H fair was really nice Whitley county was nice too. I was really impressed with the Plymouth rocks. Didn't realize how pretty they were and how many colors they came in. A buff roo I seen was amazing.

BirdLady3- I found lots on craigslist so I will post the links. Some are in good shape, others are so so.

Not all the links under town names are actually in that town, just what town I was looking under on craigslist.

I kind of didn't have anything to do for an hour lol. Plus I like looking things up and researching.Hopefully you will be able to find a good lead out of these

If you have another hour or so in the next few days, I could make use of a shed. Dh is really cutting it close to finishing our goat shed before Friday. Something used / cheap and it would be great if they had a way to move it, even if it cost extra. I'm in 46106 so south of Indy. My CL cities are Indianapolis and sometimes bloomington. The shed DH is making is going to be the 1st section of a 3 section long goat barn but a shed always comes in handy.

Hey everyone, I'm new to BYC but not really new to chickens. I had chickens a while back when I lived in southern Indiana but moved back home to Elkhart and couldn't bring them with. So now after a couple years I have some again. As for the fair here it is amazing. I was in 4H for 9 years showing horses and basically lived at the fairgrounds for the week each year. We're going tomorrow and I'll definitely be checking out the poultry barn. Right now I have 1 EE hen 1 EE rooster 1 golden laced polish hen, a pair of call ducks, and a lavender silkie hen.
