You can trim (carefully!) or some people take painters tape and wrap it around the crest to hold it up. Just not too tight, or you can risk pulling out the feathers.

There are two shows. The 4-H one and open show. The 4-H will be there the 5th-8th. I wouldn't go the 5th or the 8th though because that is check in and check out day. So you might not get to see all the birds if you go those days. Then the open show is 10th-13th. I would only go after noon the 11th (all birds have to be checked in by then) or the 12th. The 13th is check out. I would go before 5 that day.

Thanks for the info. I have been wondering when would be the best time to go up there. I live over 1 1/2 hours away and really want to see the chickens. Do you know if anyone sells hatching eggs or breeding pairs at the fair? I really want to improve on my stock. Thanks.

I like your breeding pens better than mine. I am building 5, but mine are smaller. Plus yours are closer to being done. Switch me!

They actually started building it in June!!! It has just taken that long for them to get it together.

Now if they can just get the door frames for each one built and the feeders and waters put up I will be in business. Lets just hope it doesn't take another 2 months for that. I might have to get out there with my hammer and nails.. LOL

I will probably do an order late this fall. I too am waiting to see what i get as far as girls and boys, as well as deciding which variety I want to breed.

Thought I would throw this out too:

I've decided on a couple turkey varieties I'm not keeping. So I have poults available.

4 Mottled Black - 8 Weeks old. These are from Porters.
5 Blue Slate - 9 weeks old. 4 are from Rural King, 1 was accidentally included with my midget white eggs from someone who also breeds blue slate.

I've already decided I'm keeping and breeding Midget Whites.

Now I just need to decide between Sweetgrass and Pencilled Palms. I'm probably going to grow them out to adults and then decide.
