INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

My broody's eggs are due to hatch tomorrow! Hoping for a good hatch for her. She has been faithful sitting on the best almost constantly

Sending good hatching vibes your way. My broody is on day 18 tomorrow! Biting my nails!

I'm in the "waiting on a broody" club too. but my girl had to start over today cause the dang black snake chased her off her eggs ant ate 2 of  them and by the time I found out something was wrong the rest were cold, She was on day 10 too. Sucks.

We are on Day 18. Had 3 Coronation Sussex and 1 BCM. All candled well at day 10. Today, 2 crushed eggs without any chick (or chick bodies) were in the nest. It's this Broody's first clutch. Don't know if she's going to be a bad mom or if something else went on in the coop today. I'm very bummed, though.
The 2 remaining CS eggs candled great. Hope whatever happened today doesn't happen for the next 3 days.

I love babies...

I have been working outside all day, cleaned all my houses and runs, made a brooder for my broody hen after the snake chased her off her first box. Moved 2 ISA browns to the big coop well barn for now it seems. Cleaned all the feed and water dishes,  not just wipe and rinse... a good cleaning.  So yea by the time I was ready to come in the house had to take a bath and change clothes cause the AC was freezing me... lol  went out just now to see if I could catch me.snake ( didn't ) and noticed it was cooler already.

Sucks. Would Sept. 7th be too late in the season for her to hatch chicks????  She wants them so bad. I have moved her 3 times today. 1 to get her out of the snakes hunting ground nest box too sm. 2   5 gal bucket nest... too sm. 3 just a lg cardboard box and it is just right... She is happy and she has room to turn around so she can look out.  Good luck you the 2 of you hope you have a 100% hatch rate. :pop

Diamond is on day 19. She only has two eggs under her so I'm hoping they both hatch. I never candled figured if she hasn't kicked em out she has hope for them so im not going to take em away...yet!

...Actually, I get that a lot when I get to talking genetics.

I even put a "Disclaimer" on my post, so you'd know I was just teasing! Please continue with scientific discussions. It's good to clear some issues up that have been vague. For example, I've used medicated starter before, but I didn't use it for Bonbon's May hatch since was in a coop outdoors and had the chicks outside within a week. Now, I know not to use it if I ever have chicken indoors again.

I've been working 6-8 hours a day outside (with my flock) after I get my work done inside, so I am exhausted by the time I sit down to check out the thread. That's one reason that I have a low level of comprehension!

Sounds like there are a lot of broodies! Good luck to @pginsber @CCCCCCCCHICKENS @browncow15
@chick rookie Sorry to hear about your broody's eggs! My BIL near Bloomington had copperheads last summer. His SIL is a Naturalist, and he placed metal pipes on the ground. The snakes would go into them to rest because they're warm. Then they were relocated.
Btw, That's amazing news about Honey!

I'm taking one of my quick trips to Indy. I have my quarterly voice treatment I've mentioned before (for Spasmodic Dysphonia). Since my DD in Bloomington still has my car, I'll take DH's car, and he'll have to have DS drive him to work and back. DD needs to find a vehicle. Anyway, in Indy I'll get to see my older DD and her new apartment in a beautiful house in Woodruff Place. And I'm getting three Black Bantam Cochin --possible frizzle eggs from @ellymayRans for Bonbon who's been sitting on unfertilized silkie eggs for over a week.

If I didn't have time constraints, I would offer Chicken Train services to anyone along my route!

I have to go up again soon to take my three OEGBs from Bonbon's previous hatch to @CRSelvey . I'm keeping this little Belgian Mille Fleur roo:

By the way, the plants with the large leaves are Patchouli !! Just rubbing the leaves releases the oil. Loved patchouli when I went to IU ~ some of us on the thread have reminisced about its popularity. They grow very well as potted plants, and have to be taken inside if temps go below 60. They're native to Southeast Asia.

I guess yesterday was Honey's good day. She is dying sitting in my lap. I guess she will go see her man now. I'm sad but I also am tired of seeing her suffer. Its time to let go I think. I will bury her next to her king. It wont be long now.

R.I.P Honey, I know your Arthur was waiting for you. You haven't been happy since he left.
You will be missed.

Sorry people but I just had to.

I'm sorry for your loss, Chickrookie. No more suffering for little Honey.
