Been getting a lot of eggs from my girls lately. Any suggestions as to what I can do with extra eggs that we don't use? We have been giving some away to friends but still not enough to matter. I have 25 hens
and don't want to part with any of them. If I chose to sell eggs how much should I sell them per dozen?

I sell my extras, I get 1.75 a dz. others around my area get 2.00 and 2.50 which I personally think is crazy... but oh well to each his own.

I usually have chicks of many different sizes because I incubate both chicken and peacock eggs. Would you think this would work even with the different chick sizes, or would I run into a problem?

Hubby sells our eggs to coworkers and neighbors for $3 a dozen (brown eggs, large to extra large). They're $4 a dozen or more at grocery stores. It helps with the feed bill.

Why are you selling them? I would love to use alternative power in my shed/coop for the water heaters and overhead lights after dark. Is that what you used the system for? What did you think?

I had some doing the block thing... but I started blocking myself and believe it or not it didn't take long before they got the picture. 
 How well did the plastic hold up.  Maybe I can cover my coop with it just to make sure all my drafts are taken care of, pretty sure they are but just in case. last year after I found my problem causing the frostbite I wrapped my whole coop in a big tarp.  It looked tacky but it worked till we could get a warm enough day to fix it. fyi= paint alone is NOT a good enough sealer for wood.  

We buy a new roll of heavy transparent (more like translucent) every winter. DH uses a power stapler to attach it to 2x4s around the coop about 3' off the grounf, and we use large branched to hold the bottom down. I believe it's a 4' wide roll. It could certainly be used to nearly cover a coop, but you do need to allow for ventilation of course. We just tear it off in the spring. Our coop is in a corner, so we only have to be super careful about watching to be sure there are no loose or fallen staples on those sides.

We need to put siding on the henhouse portion. We added insulation, 1/2" thick (all that we could attach easily), and covered it with Tyvek. It has that West Virginia shack look, but we will put up siding before this winter.

maybe you could write a story that takes place in an amish setting or in an historical setting out west.  Maybe the first guy is the hero out west and the second story with the female is a damsel in distress. 

Hmm, maybe something like that. Except, Alice is never in distress. The talking chicken or the pioneer farmer might be, but never Alice. She's the Daring Hero.
