hey everyone morning its so cold....prolly ten degrees here...going out to the coop and found 13 eggs.... im putting some in the incubator that was still warm to touch all others that were not warm im not taking the chance...so I shall have baby chicks within 30

For anyone wondering about the dogs in the kennels, they only sleep in them at night. I couldn't have 5 dogs running all over my house while we are sleeping. No dogs were harmed in the taking of that picture.

For anyone wondering about the dogs in the kennels, they only sleep in them at night. I couldn't have 5 dogs running all over my house while we are sleeping. No dogs were harmed in the taking of that picture.

I was just asking because it is a little unusual to see them stacked like that unless it is a rescue. I am sure they are fine. I have 2 and one sleeps with me and the other prefers her bed on the floor.

We turned our under the stair storage into a "dog crate." Miss the storage but love not having a big metal crate in the middle of the room. Because I teach classes out of my home, I must have a place to lock them up when needed. Of course they choose to sleep in the hall blocking all 3 bedrooms. Did I mention it's about 180 lbs of dog between the two? There's a fun dog obstacle course we must pass to get to the bathroom b/c they like to sprawl.

So this isn't the greatest picture because he is shy, but this is the boy (pretty sure it is a boy but have not heard a crow or seen an egg!) I hatched from Racin's mystery eggs. He is 4.5 months old. His dad was a crested cream legbar and his mother was a brown egg layer, we thought maybe dark cornish because he is built like a tank! I think he is turning into one of the prettiest boys I have ever seen! He is barred with splashes of bright orange and green and a tiny poofy crest! He has a weird comb, maybe a rose comb? I saw him break up a squabble between two of the hens yesterday and was so proud! He seems like he will be a really nice boy and a great back up roo. I will try to get some better pictures of him! I have been wanting to show him off but he is so shy he hides whenever I am out there with a camera.

I'm starting the setting of eggs for the breeding season. The basement has been spot clean but I know what DH will be doing this weekend. Collecting the chick waters and feeders, making sure they are all in working order and of course he'll count them to make sure we have enough. Some how they tend to go missing on the hatch day. Not this year, nope, this year we will be much better organized.
