Hello locals..... I'm am looking for some local chicks to buy in the next comming weeks if you have or will have any of the following ( or know of anyone who would) PLEASE let me know. I am looking for any of the following breeds.
Plymouth Rock Dominque----Gold Sex Link--- Buff Orpington Dorking---- Frizzel--- Silkie---- Favorello----
Even though there are many breeds listed i am only looking for a maximumn of 7-10 chicks a have a small backyard flock.
Please let me know, willing to travel 30 min in any direction. Had some issues ordering last year and would just prefer to support my local economy.
Hello everyone! It feels like forever since I have been on BYC. I can't wait to start filling the incubator full of eggs from my girls. As soon as I get all my stock hatched out, I will have hatching eggs for sale from all my breeds. I just thought I would let everyone know. We also will post all information on our facebook page.
Someone inquired about the Bielefelder egg color so I thought I would post some pics here too. I pulled some examples off of the Bielefelder thread so these are not actually my birds (but same colors). They are a pretty medium to dark brown and often speckled. The color does vary throughout the year like with a Marans or Welly
Is anyone else sick of being sick, or is it just me?!
I have been down with the flu (well, I assume the flu, though they could be the two worst colds I have ever experienced...) twice in the past three weeks! These past couple days have just been pure misery! I just want one day when I'm not constantly coughing!!
Excuse the mini-rant, it's an unfortunate side-effect of my niece going to public school.
In other news, oh my gosh, new breed for the wantlist--Silkied Black Cochin bantams!
Okay, I admit it, I have a thing for silkied feathers.
And because I'm sick and tired and don't feel like going back to quote, some short responses:
Love all the pictures, especially the Peas and widdle chickie babies!
Wish I had answers for some of y'all on other topics.
Looking forward to the Chickenfest and hoping we can make it this yearn as well!
Quote: Great idea putting it on the side! I like how it turned out. I have one for hatching, but redoing it to add a window.
I Really like my sportsman cabinet. With hatching so many species and sizes of eggs its been a huge help! Only real issue I run into is moisture, so will add a bucket feed this year to keep water in the tray..
Its been built for a long time, just now finally finishing the rooms, ugh! DH has about 1/4 of the room, the rest is all mine. Now I need fabric to make stuff! Aprons for all my hens is first.
All of the frostbitten combs in my coop seem to be healing well, just very slowly.
I have one bird who I thought might have leg mites, but on closer inspection, none of them seem to have any problems, and now I can't remember which one I thought looked bad.
I culled a black orp a few weeks back because she was wasting away to nothing, and became very listless and lethargic. No one else appears ill, and she had no other symptoms I could detect.
I want to apologize to anyone who has received multiple replies concerning Chickenfest. I am a little slow figuring out that if you send a pm to multiple people, the replies go to those same multiple people. I will try to be more careful in the future.
As of right now, from the replies that I have recieved it looks like it is going to be a June event. That seems to be the preferred month so far. I will try to post weekly updates of the polling on the Chickenfest thread.
Can't remember if I've posted a picture Id my mottled orp girl. I'm really loving the color and breed! The other chickens in the picture are ones I was given for a coworker when she moved into town. No idea what breed they are.
Quote: Although the days are getting longer, they aren't getting much longer very quickly. This will start to accelerate in Feb. But don't count on the little bit more of daylight now triggering anyone to start laying or pick up on their laying. That will happen more likely in March or April. What you are probably seeing is the girls bodies recognizing they need a break from laying and it's perfectly natural. I take the attitude that any eggs I get from the girls right now are a gift, but I will be keeping an eye on who starts laying when, especially with my breeds that I intend to breed from. Early laying is definitely a trait to encourage.
