INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

4 goose eggs today! Had some good friends stop by with their grandsons. We got to do a real life "Easter egg hunt" looking for hidden nests. My younger goose hens are being sneaky and laying everywhere but the goose house! the boys are 6 and 9, really had fun with them. They got to watch the pigs rooting and rolling in the mud, they were laughing at them. Both couldn't wait to pet my big boar, he was being so polite and standing still for the lil guy.
Ducks are laying like crazy, scovies are starting to nest too. Getting about 2 dozen chicken eggs a day finally!
My Black Swedish has gone broody again. Hadn't seen her leave the next box for more than a week until this morning. Really hoping this batch hatches. Her last one didn't. Poor girl was sitting on the nest for a month and a half with no luck from Thanksgiving to New Year's :( If it works, I'll have Pekin mixes for everybody (Pekin drakes over Black Swedish, Pekin and Rouen hens, maybe even a chocolate Muscovy). Speaking of 'Scovies though, if you need to get rid of a drake before they go crazy and have to go to freezer camp, I'm pretty darn sure the chocolate 'Scovy's a girl now. Initially, she was getting so much bigger so much faster than the little lavender one that we thought she was a drake, but alas, I don't think so. She hasn't grown at all in months and still doesn't have the caruncle growth or size I'd think of as male. Plus, she trills everywhere. She is such a sweetie

On another note, About half of my 'pullets' appear to be roos, so I'll likely have some to rehome later.

Have some gorgeous colors coming from the EEs though; one looks to be red pyle--supposed to be an EE pullet, but it has white ear lobes. Its shanks seem to be slowly turning greenish but are mostly pink and white. Very suddenly developing an attitude, pink comb and upright posture--all overnight. Another is some really strange color that I have no name for. He has cream-laced black breast feathers and black barring over cream everywhere else. Can't wait to see what these two look like as adults, but my money's on gorgeous.

Looks like I have these roos now: two EEs, one bantam light Brahma (supposed to be a standard pullet, but really does look like a bantam roo now), one buff Orp, one Welsummer, one miscellaneous red chick, and up to three partridge Cochins/ dark Brahmas (can't tell the difference yet--came from an assorted bin, and nobody knew what was in it). Tally on pullets looks like 1 Brahma, 1 Welsummer, 2 Australorps, 1 Jersey Giant, maybe one of the three Cohin.Brahmas, 1 GL Wyandotte, 1 SL Wyandotte, and three EEs (of the 6+ I purchased)--all standards.

Finally got all my cochins seperated by variety! Still in temporary pens until the others dry out some more. I need to clean out all the coops and will spread straw down in the runs to prevent a big muddy mess. Also going to take down some fencing and make the lens larger this year.

Need help! Any advice on having free rangers AND a large garden? Fence one or the other? Clip wings? Thanks!
no chickens in the garden...they will tear it up...maybe runner ducks and call ducks...but no chickens...if your going to clip wings clip both sides....cause they can still fly not high but still can...they made it over our eight foot grape fence with just one side cut....so do both...thats all i can think of for right now

First hatch in the sportsman and loving it! No issues at all. Reminded me of the cooking appliance where they kept saying "Just set it and forget it!" These things are truly idiot proof!

The humidity in the unit has been about 45%-50% and when I put the eggs in lockdown, I put in one of the wicks. The humidity jumped to almost 70% and it start to form condensation on the bottom and leak as @birdman55 had warmed me. I removed the wick and decided to see how they hatch without increasing humidity. Worked beautifully!
yepper told you...i cut one wick in half and then one in 3/4 length...as you can adjust your humidity that way...even at 63 percent there was no condensation but still was water coming out the bottom...glad thing your hatch went well...full wick i was at 70, half a wick i was at like 50-55 percent and 3/4 wick i was at 55-60 percent....just thought i would share...
got sand moved to all the pheasant / peafowl coops....only four coops left...getting eggsited...there is over 200 eggs in the incubator...and the coolerbator is full....wow...hatching two trays on the 23/24th....so getting ready....moved the 24 chicks to sand on there bedding...working great...the water stays better...compared to the chips getting in it and clogging the water...well...thats about all i can think of...pretty tired from all the sand moving...and i made a mess out of the backyard...so its mud everywhere...got the peafowl coop tarped off and a nest box in...ok bye

Is anyone currently incubating Turkey eggs to sell?

My DF (who always says "no more chickens") was at Rural King today and said he thought about getting turkeys. Really only want two female and one male, but you can't tell with those and then he would've had to get three chicks as well. I told him to wait so I could check with you all. I have a couple chicks being hatched by a friend so I really didn't want more RK chicks!

Let me know if you're currently doing hatches and what breed. They will probably end up being dinner at some point, may try to hatch out some youngin's at some point.
I'm trying my hand at hatching some Blue Palm turkey eggs.
@racinchickins and
@jchny2000 hatch out turkeys too. And @jchny2000 might be placing an order from Meyer for meat turkeys.
