I still have chicks brooding in the pantry, and porch....ugh! The dust is really bad from any chicks of course. My lil mallards like to explore if mom doesn't come see them at 4AM! My goal is not brooding or hatching in the house, or garage period. But my goal is also to add to my flocks I intend to keep. My Incubator is still in the pantry to keep temp and humidity stable. DH would kill me if I had birds in the bedroom, but if its a special bird, I guess I better be wary![]()
I should have been clearer--they aren't in OUR bedroom! Even I am not that crazy! They are in a spare bedroom that is rarely used. I will have to move all the hatching action into my daughter's bedroom soon, but left most in the spare bedroom until her spring break is over. Right now, she has only had to put up with one 'bator. Hubby will be starting his seedlings soon, and I have to stop using his grow table. Theoretically, I could leave the babies in the short-term brooders on that bed, though, and might do that to avoid having to deep clean TWO bedrooms when this is over--which will be when my orders slack off and I can finally raise some babies for myself! The only chicks I have going just for me are the Bielefelders, which I get to check for viability sometime between Friday and Sunday. I assume they will be a little harder to candle than the light brown eggs my Orps lay. The ones I have are pretty uniformly a medium-brown color.
