Just thought everyone should know this (because it's awesome like that): I have a tom already. One of my BBBs started strutting already, and he's all of a week old. Seriously, he was strutting all over my living room.

I started brainstorming names for everyone last night. Thinking of Rachel for the first confirmed turkey hen (after the Arby's sandwich), Sandwich, Burger and Giblets.

Pretty sure my Australorps are likely to be named Black Betty and Bamba-Lam. If I get a roo, he'll likely be Blackjack. The Jersey girl is Cleopatra Swartz after the Kentucky Fried Movie character.

Now that I know I have a partridge Rock, he'll likely be named Dwayne Johnson.

Other roos are likely to be General Tso, Ala King, Kung Pao, Gumbo, Coq Justeau, Jerk, and Cacciatore and Cordon Bleu. Hens are likely to be Marinara, Marsala, Marbella, Florentine, Barbie Qued, Terri Yaki, Quesadilla, Enchilada, Noodles, Drumsticks, Dumplings and Nuggets. I'll come up with more as needed, of course.

Our ducks are named Thomas, Martha and Sally (after certain historical persons, wink wink), Dill (DD's drake), Rorschach (after the pattern on her feet) and Sue (after the Tyrannosaur).

So, about egg licking, funny post by the way, if one assumes that brown eggs and white eggs are chocolate and vanilla flavored, what flavor are blue eggs? Or Olive eggs? Lol! :D

My first full week of chicks has been interesting, we all seem to have survived pasty butt, my chicks have discovered cornbread, whole wheat bread and raw oatmeal (both old fashioned, and steel cut). All eleven chicks are getting wing feathers and eight are sprouting tail feathers and attempting to fly out of the brooder. I don't seem to be having any problems with them at all now that the pasty butt cleared up on the 2-3 that had it.My Barred Plymouth Rock chicks are not nearly as skittish around me as the ISA Browns seem to be, the Browns are much more "chicken" than the Rocks. I try to pick a few up out of the brooder every day in the hopes they'll become used to being handled.

When I bought the additional six Browns to go with the Rocks, I mentioned I was going to have to build a new coop, I've been dodging the rain drops for the past couple days and I'm making steady progress with it. Since I'm a renter, I'm designing my coop to be able to be disassembled in a couple of hours so it can me moved and setup again quickly should the need arise. I've got my main structure and floor all built, you might be able to see the supports are bolted to the base frame and floor so they can be moved and pre-fabbed back together, and I'm planning to build the walls and roof in individual sections and held together with hooks and eyes, similar to what you used to see on old screen doors. I don't have any plans drawn, it's all in my head. I've bought a 5' x 10' dog kennel that has 2" x 4" fence openings on the side and for temporary I've tied chicken wire all the way around the bottom to help deter predators. I'll be removing the back panel of the run and butting my coop right up to the run to prevent escapes and predators. The main box of my coop is going to be 5' x 5' with a front to back sloping roof and a 4 bay nesting box on the back side. It's supposed to be decent tomorrow and I'm hoping I can get my front panel framed and put together so I can move the base into position on the dog kennel before it gets too heavy to move. It's already not light.

Just thought I'd compliment you on your names.

My tom is Giblets and the hen is Wishbone. The original tom was Drumstick, but he got aggressive and went to someone's freezer camp. Giblets is their bouncing baby boy.
