INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Things are going better after my egg debacle last week. I have had several customers come back and request more chicks and now want roosters as well!!!! LOL nothing says satisfied customer like someone later WANTING a rooster!!!

Equine boot camp started yesterday, I rode three horses after 9 months of no riding. I came through it surprisingly well. They all refrained from attempts on my life. I am sore in some super awkward places today though!

In sad news, my Pee Wee passed yesterday. She never was quite right and I consider it a gift to have had her for a year and a half. RIP sweet girl.

So sorry about Pee Wee - what a cutie!

I hear you on the sore in awkward places - DD has returned home for the summer from college and we are going to be getting the horses back into work (I have all but left them to wander the pasture since she left last fall - she put maybe 5 rides on them during visits between then and now). I have a feeling I am going to be feeling some pain in the next few weeks as my old bones and muscles remember what it is like to work a horse. I've tasked her with getting my little mare tuned up with the intent of getting her sold off as I got to the point I was not happy with spending all the $$$ feeding and caring for them all winter long without anyone getting any use out of them. DD's horse will be with us until DD either takes her or decides to let her go - but I just don't have the time, energy or inclination to keep up with doing much more than feeding them on top of everything else I have on my plate and am ready to be down one "hole in the pasture you throw money into".

Quote: the soapy water tends to be very popular. I found an official milk strainer from an online store, so I'm going to give that a shot.

Guys I could cry! DH and I got home from being gone for a couple of days and my momma bird is down to only 3 chicks. I think one of the cats that's been hanging out in the barn got 2 of my CCL girls

. @racinchickins do you have any more CCL hatching eggs for sale?
Quote: I have iodine, I'll try it tonight. The soapy water is not bad just has to be set up every time. An iodine spray bottle could be left ready with the other milking supplies.

Quote: I think I'm on their list for large fowl pullets. But when people call me wanting silkies in the Indianapolis area you are the first name that I provide.
Quote: yes she has the frosted / glazed nubian ears. She has her mother's spirit so far. She got her mother's leg coloring too. Some of the frosting is in the front part of the coat too so there is a nice white blend when I look real close. And once I realized her mother had an oversupply and started milking her, the doeling improved drastically with the end of the yellow goo.

Its kind of funny, both of my brown does had false heats so they kidded almost 3 weeks earlier than I expected. I was thinking I would have some time to work with each goat on the milking stand before the next one kidded but these just kidded one week after the other almost. Leaving very little time for me to get the hang of milking down before having another goat to add to the milking schedule.

So much milk right now, I know I'll have an increase need of it this fall but for now I'm using maybe half of what my goats are giving me. How well does it freeze? Not that I have a lot of freezer space, we are getting our spring half a cow today.

I'm thinking if thinning some of my breeds down a little...

The first step is admitting you have a prob.
Ive also got my bresse eggs hatching, I have freedom rangers on order, and Brad has some BLRW for me also WOW is all I can say...

I need an answer asap please. just in case I need a vet.
I was worming my goats with Ivermectin and the lock slipped, so my billy got about 700lb dose. Did I just kill my goat???

I'm going to say he will be alright, but you can google info on overdosage.
Make sure he gets plenty of water

My first thought is egg bound or one busted inside her. Is there any visible stuff seeping out of her vent or the fluff appear like there has been? I had a large Blue Copper hen like that only I could see a slight stream of stuff coming out of her. I thought she'd pass because all I'd ever read was if that it busted inside it kills them. I cleaned her up and made her as comfortable as possible but after 2 days she was fine. She was like that 2 days before I realized there was something off. She stood about the same place throughout the day and didn't want to move or barely open her eyes. She lays very large eggs and has since been fine. This was last summer.

I hope she comes out of it.

No evidence of anything egg-related. While I annoyed her trying to save her life today, she pooped all over my leg and both feet--a small amount of green poo plus a small amount of white urates, but no evidence of any egg components.

Her temp today was 107.4, and I'll bet it was higher yesterday (hard to believe chickens can survive such high fevers). This does not bode well. I honestly don't expect her to live, but I'll do my best. She got more SC fluids plus some honey/vitamins/aspirin/water via crop tube, and I switched the antibiotic to LA 200. I still don't see anything externally. She clearly has a serious infection, and I suspect it's gastrointestinal since there are no respiratory signs (still) and no reproductive signs (though I have not ruled that out--especially if she happened to lay internally). She is not a very cooperative patient, despite feeling lousy. She is only good for the little "rain shower" she gets once a day, and she isn't too bad for the SC fluids, but she did not enjoy being tubed. Nor did DH or I! No one else is sick, so it's unlikely to be contagious, but we are taking all necessary precautions just in case. If she does die or I have to euthanize her, I'll definitely open her up to find out what happened. I hate unsolved mysteries.

Thanks to everyone who has offered support and suggestions!!! I appreciate it.
