Well my bad luck is holding. Went out to feed around 8pm as I always do and 1st I found my Black mom standing in shock and clearly mulled, and her 3 babies that she yesterday, gone. Then I found a pile of feathers like a chicken had been plucked right in that spot. I got to looking around some more and doing a head count and found a WR some tore up feathers but otherwise fine, and then a trail of my missing Lt. Brahma's feathers leading to the neighbors back door along with the whole in my fence. DH video taped it all and we called the police. Well as for the norm around here, they took a report OVER THE PHONE, and said that they would send AC in the morning. Well I waited around all day yesterday, nothing!!!
DH went over to this deadbeats house right after it happen ( well after we found it ) and seen them moving around in the kitchen windows, but they would not answer the door. They had been warned that their dog had been tearing holes in the fence, and that if she harmed or killed any of my birds there would be H E double hockey sticks to pay.
I have been over there a few times since and get the same result, home but wont answer!! When I shot someone don't forget " I tried to let the LAW handle it " but as for the norm they don't give a hoot!!!!
Just so ya know the black hen is doing great and the Splash hen has let her have 4 babies.

Well first predator loss for awhile! My trio of EE's just wouldn't roost at night in any of the coops. They've always slept outside, usually perched on a chair at the walkout basement door. Well I found the rooster decapitated this morning with half it's breast eaten on. DH said our dog was outside last night going nuts and came in all out of breath. The 2 hens were roosted in a tree just near the body. No blood and it was cold so I'm just not sure when it happened but it seemed to have been interrupted so thinking it was due to our dog. I have manually put them in the coops and in the pens, guess I need to start again and maybe now that the girls have seen horror they will appreciate it more!!
Am so sorry. EE do tend to be more independent. I finally have a flock that will mostly coop up.

I hate taking pics with a heat lamp but they were just too cute to not!
Latest broody fiasco eggs that I set have began hatching. Out of 19, 12 have hatched and the 2 silkies I set on purpose!
They are waking up so I turned the lamp off to take a pic of the adorable little bantam Cochin chick. Those duster feet kill me!

LOL!
Just toooooo adorable, congrats on the hatches!

Hello neighbor! We did live in Cicero a short while also when we first married, small world! Please feel free to post anytime.

Ok so I looked back in the conversation between the swapper and myself and the member said they weren't blue but came from an Araucana. although I think they all turned blue eventually lol I'm so confused now lol but I'll take em.. Possibly sale them or swap/trade
You will find if they are EEs, they are the most fun, unusual birds you can keep. I adore mine, and no worries of fatal flaws or problems in some of the other blue layer breeds. Good layers, friendly and human social. They will stay in my flock even if I quit keeping some of my other breeds. I love most the difference and variety of colors in the birds as well as the eggs. My roosters stay social too. I've made a point of removing any aggressive/mean birds every season and its paid off.

I love the diversity in the chicken world! Easter Eggers are awesome as you can get ALL kinds of color variations! I have 4 Easter Eggers, 2 Olive Eggers, 3 Ameraucana, and 2 Rumpless Araucana I LOVE the colorful egg basket! It's so great to see so many people learning about breeds and working to better the lines that are available here in the states. I say High Fives to ALL the "egg heads" out there!

Agreed! I am finally getting back to having my chocolate eggs in the basket too, thanks to @ellymayRans and another friend from KY. Can't wait to see maran eggs again. I downsized a little too much this spring, and regret it. Now I will be back to white eggs down to chocolate again!

O trust me allot of people have tried to do something about them for lots of reasons. Nothing is ever done.

The A/C went over to " talk " to them about their dog yesterday and that eve, he came " storming " over with his arms held out like some kind of thug with his No shirt and fat rolls jiggling has he stomped as hard as he could and his over sized shorts showing his butt crack, ( I just don't get that??? Do they think they are sexy? ) Well I was feeding and DH had just pulled into the drive, So this Idiot is trying to intimidate me ( I don't scare easy I was really trying not to laugh at him. ) When DH comes around goat pen and ask what the problem was??? lol the look on his face... some of you know DH aint no tiny man... anyway he spouted off some stuff that made no sense, " claimed " HE was going to put up a 2nd fence and he didn't want to catch any of our animals on his property........?????? WHAT??? I told him if his dang dog hadn't drug our " Animal " over there " our animals wouldn't be on his property". Just can't fix stupid!!! He said something about his dog was a Rottie and no way she could have gotten through that hole, DH being the wonderful man he is... tried to show him the hole and show him that you can see which way the hole was pushed " in " not out, and who ever told him that his dog was a Rottie is sadly mistaken, you can see that she is mixed with Rott only b/c of her color markings and really that could be a Dobbi or a Shepard even, who knows, but she is not even close to being a Rott. Even at that it wasn't our dogs on his place. ... I know our dogs killed our chicken and dragged it over to his place then came back in our yard and back in the house before anyone knew it... which would mean our dogs had to open the door their selves cause they don't go out without me!!!
Allot more said that didn't make any sense and him trying to convince us that his dogs chest wouldn't fit through that hole while holding his hands out 4 ft to show us how big her chest is... Really??? wow my GP don't have a chest that big and my GP makes 4 of his dog.... cant fix stupid... DH walked away from him while he was rambling saying his dog would be shot the next time!! and DH left it at that and helped me feed, the whole time this idiot is shouting from across his yard. What ever...

I would like to know how HE is going to put up anything??? His wife works part time at a gas station and that is the only income they have due to his laziness and pot habit, but I guess her welfare check and food stamps will pay for it.

OK time to share my new Silkies, don't think I have yet.

the last 2 hens aren't new but the chicks are. The black hen is the 1 that got mulled in the dog attack, Splash gave her 4 chicks to replace to one the dog killed. All is well in the Silkie world again. For some reason I cant find the pic's of the 2 new buff hens I go as well. I will have to take more today..... lol Romeo is very pleases with his new ladies and they are finally pleased with him.. lol

Morning all! I started my day off to tiny squeaky crowing wars from my mottled breda and silkied ameraucana pens. LOL my neighbors will be so thrilled! At least they are still relatively quiet at this stage!!!

My life has been a bit busy so I haven't been as active on here as I would like. I had a very sudden business opportunity come up, it is really exciting and could mean a couple years of hard work to realize the dream. If I decide to move forward, I will not be breeding next year and will likely process all or most of the roosters since my neighbors are really unhappy with the noise anyway and roosters are pretty easy to obtain later! It is a tough decision to make. I was really excited about my two new breeds, but even if I don't breed them I will keep the girls and enjoy them. I need to get some pictures of the babies. They have exited the gawky teenager stage and are really gorgeous little things! The silkied ams are just adorable with their little fluffy cheeks!

Just some random thoughts and ramblings!

Morning!!

I came across some free books on Amazon if anyone is interested in getting them while they are free. At first, I didn't think I would be able to get them because I don't have a Kindle but you can download the Kindle app on most iPhones and it works great. Happy hump day!!

Hey guys, it has been a busy Summer and I haven't been on here much. this spring i got a little crazy and ordered a few extra chicks. You all know how that goes. LOL Anyway here are some polish about 6 months old that I have from McMurray Hatchery. I am more than pleasantly surprised at the quality of these birds. As it happens I need to re-home them as my Orps are just too rough and tumble for them. Anyone wanting a ready made flock at a super low price, 3 hens and a roo, drop me a PM. They have had their Merricks vaccine. :)
Wish I lived closer I'd take em in a heartbeat!
