INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

UGH, today has been such a long day for me! :th So glad to be home and be able to put my feet up for a while! And, of course, catch up with my chicken people. ;)

I love the diversity in the chicken world! Easter Eggers are awesome as you can get ALL kinds of color variations! I have 4 Easter Eggers, 2 Olive Eggers, 3 Ameraucana, and 2 Rumpless Araucana I LOVE the colorful egg basket! It's so great to see so many people learning about breeds and working to better the lines that are available here in the states. I say High Fives to ALL the "egg heads" out there!

Love it! What varieties of Ameraucana do you have? They are one of my favorite breeds--can't wait until I have a setup to keep a flock of them! :D

Another picture and so far my fave

:love

You will find if they are EEs, they are the most fun, unusual birds you can keep. I adore mine, and no worries of fatal flaws or problems in some of the other blue layer breeds. Good layers, friendly and human social. They will stay in my flock even if I quit keeping some of my other breeds. I love most the difference and variety of colors in the birds as well as the eggs. My roosters stay social too. I've made a point of removing any aggressive/mean birds every season and its paid off.

This is a really good point. With true Araucanas, any time you cross a tufted bird to a tufted bird, about 25% of the chicks won't even hatch. And then there's all the infertility issues associated with the rumpless gene of true Araucanas. It isn't any wonder why they're so rare! :/

Easter-eggers are some of my favorite birds, too. :) Good on you breeding away from aggressive roosters!

Only looking for Welsummers to complete my flock. Added these 2 Araucana and a Lavender O today. I Love the Rumpless babies and can't wait for blue eggs! I have two blue and 1 black Ameraucana along with the 5 Easter Eggers and 2 Olive Eggers :) it's quite a mix!

one of our EE girls is smaller than the others & can easily fly over a 6 ft tall fence .
we expanded one of our indoor coops from a 4×8 to an 8×8. i havent put a cover/roof over it yet, so of course she has been flying out & cant figure out to fly back in . this is where i found her egg today (straw we store in a plastic trashcan) :

Quote: Its terrible to go through. I have been really fortunate here. Our neighbors have the same interests fortunately and are just good, normal people. We had a real nutcase over in anderson, don't miss it a bit.

OK time to share my new Silkies, don't think I have yet.

the last 2 hens aren't new but the chicks are. The black hen is the 1 that got mulled in the dog attack, Splash gave her 4 chicks to replace to one the dog killed. All is well in the Silkie world again. For some reason I cant find the pic's of the 2 new buff hens I go as well. I will have to take more today..... lol Romeo is very pleases with his new ladies and they are finally pleased with him.. lol
Loved the pics! Very first, is it partridge? Love the color.

Morning all! I started my day off to tiny squeaky crowing wars from my mottled breda and silkied ameraucana pens. LOL my neighbors will be so thrilled! At least they are still relatively quiet at this stage!!!

My life has been a bit busy so I haven't been as active on here as I would like. I had a very sudden business opportunity come up, it is really exciting and could mean a couple years of hard work to realize the dream. If I decide to move forward, I will not be breeding next year and will likely process all or most of the roosters since my neighbors are really unhappy with the noise anyway and roosters are pretty easy to obtain later! It is a tough decision to make. I was really excited about my two new breeds, but even if I don't breed them I will keep the girls and enjoy them. I need to get some pictures of the babies. They have exited the gawky teenager stage and are really gorgeous little things! The silkied ams are just adorable with their little fluffy cheeks!

Just some random thoughts and ramblings!
Wow lots to think about! Go with what your gut tells you, I have passed up so many things I now regret. I have also made some choices were not the best!

The other option is trimming one wing, but I just hate doing that.

OK totally unrelated to poultry or waterfowl. Some of you know my DH, Brad.
Sooooo we were up pretty late Tuesday night, until about 130am. DH finally reached a deal with a guy to trade our little stepside truck for a bike... after all, who needs 2 trucks anyways? He is pretty happy today. He and I have loved riding all our lives. Yes Its low enough I can ride it too. Love the neon green ground effects, no question being seen at night.

Shoulda got a crouch rocket they are so much more fun and not nearly as loud... "Hog" style bikes always give me a headache and I think the average person who rides them is a "look at me" moron(no offence) but on the other hand that is a pretty cool looking bike but do me a favor and put a proper muffler on that thing so I don't have to hear it coming from a mile away
