Now that I'm all caught up, I have a cute story for ya'll, ( its probably 1 of those had to be there type of stories but going to tell it anyway cause I thought it was funny.
We don't have a tractor to move our round bales of hay and not enough barn space to have enough sq bales for the winter, so we have to tow our round bales to the horse pasture when needed. BUT it is so muddy right now that we cant do real well... so yesterday late afternoon DH and I were playing tip the bale into the bed of the pick-up. that was too heavy so we tipped it onto our little flat dump trailer, was still a chore to say the least nut it worked, then from the trailer we tipped it into the bed of the truck. DH goes as fast as he can to get through the mud to where the bale goes, then we have to tip it out of the truck, easier then getting it in I'll tell ya.
Now the whole time we are doing all this it is lightly snowing, the chickens, goats, horses and dogs are all watching the show and doing their thing.
So we get the bale out of the truck I remove the netting and we place the ring around the bale, DH again goes as fast as he can to get OUT through the mud.... he no more then gets through the gate when the sky lets lose of sleet and alot of it and coming down fast!!!!
The chickens, goats, horses and the dogs haul butt for the houses and barns at dead runs!!!!! I have never seen 2 acres of ground full to the brim with animals look so empty, so fast, in all my life!!!
The chickens were clucking, the goats were yelling and the dogs were whining, and here I was getting the tar beat out of me closing gates behind DH as fast as I could so I could get out of it too.... DH just sat in the truck and waited it out!! Butt head!! Then it turned to snow and the ground was covered in less then a minute. Have I ever told ya I HATE winter???
Big disappointment in my hatchery BCM's ( I knew it was a long shot ) they are laying Light brown eggs, but they are big. If I keep them they will go into the layer flock, the big eggs just might save them, but they will have to come off their attitudes. Still waiting on the FBM's that aren't supposed to be hatchery to start laying to see what I get from them. Better be some DARK eggs for what I paid for them, and I want them for my OE project. I lost my splash Marran yesterday, Just died... no reason I could find. I think it had something to do with all this wet ground even tho she showed no signs of being ill.
