INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Quote: Thanks! I wouldn't mind another jenny if she is as sweet as Daisy, or even a gelded fella. My free range flock has been very safe since Daisy came here. She is such a sweetheart, I adore her. Planning ahead, I want to find someone with a mini Jack to be able to breed her, when its time. No way will I think about keeping a Jack myself, its more than I can handle. Bocephus is almost too much! I have to make sure anything that comes here is very human imprinted for my parents safety.
Just love Fanny, cow kisses are sloppier than a bloodhound tho LOL! She will nuzzle up, lick your face if she likes you, and ugh the smell of cud!

But I love her attention. I keep very hands on especially with any of the girls that are expecting. Makes birthing easier. Fanny seems to be wary of strange men she doesn't know I've noticed. I had friends visit that were on vacation and she loved the wife. Very standoffish to the husband first few minutes, but she seemed to pick up he was "ok" once I went into the pasture with her. I gave him bread slices to share with my mixed herd. After a few treats, he was blessed with cow kisses too! I find it very interesting how animals show their opinions without saying a word. They also tell us a story about their life, even when we really don't know their history.

I'm new to the forum and planning on getting my coop built in a few weeks. I am wanting to buy some pullets so I don't have to wait all summer for them to start laying. I am curious if any one knows any reputable places in east central Indiana. I am near Muncie. I haven't see a whole lot on craigslist yet. Curious what there is here in the Hoosier state.

Welcome to our place. and BYC. It would help to know what breeds you are interested in? Egg layers, meat birds, show, or pet. I'm guessing sense you are wanting near started pullets or started pullets you are wanting eggs. Brown, white, mixed or does it matter?
You can always find birds here.... lol chicken math hits us all, and some ( I plied the 5th ) hits too hard and then we have to rehome.. lol

the only girls giving any eggs right now and that aint allot,

Had a great visit with M2H been a long time coming. Hope you and Lacy are s good of friends as we were.

Strictly for meat, you're pretty well off with broad-breasted white and bronze turkeys. Breeding and hatching, you'll have to have heritage breeds. Of heritage breeds, Royal Palm are champion egg-layers, will set and mother very well, free range very well, fly very well, and are exceptionally prolific (they are the smallest as meat turkeys go, however, and have the smallest breasts). Turkeys are seasonal layers and famous broodies (as in, they'll fight over golf balls and mother them into oblivion).

Porter's Turkeys (best place to get them)
Thank you

I'm really just looking for some decent layers. I've heard golds the comets are good, RIR, New Hampshire red, etc. I don't have anything special in mind

You might be interested to know I have a tractor style coop 12 by 6 that I wouldn't mind parting with will probably come with 3 light brahmas, three Dominique's and a very smart ee.. Pm me for further info they were gonna be breeder but haven't been able to find any Roos in the two breeds

I did finally remember to take a couple pictures of our Peafowl today! BS cock, IB hen. After several attempts the hen finally shows her head lol Still timid but are finally adjusting more. The pictures do not do justice to the gorgeous copper colors in the cocks train.
They look so good! Very happy you are enjoying them!
