INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Thanks everyone for your suggestions/comments. It's going to be tough, but I am going to have to deal with it one way or another. I'll keep you posted.

I reluctantly left for work this morning a nervous mess because i have a scovy egg that externally pipped before 7 am yesterday morning and had made more progress this morning but instead of zipping around the egg it was going from center up to the large end of the egg! At least i saw movement of the shell just as i was leaving, one last check, and gave me a Little Bit of relief. Really hoping to come home to a baby duckling!!!
I have 2 other eggs now with external pips, 1 yesterday and the other from overnight sometime.

Geez i thought hatching chicks and peas were stressful! I just need them so badly its making it that much more stressful for sure!

Its so hard to get a clear pic with the flash and thru that plastic lid!!

the BYC mobile version works ok for me, except it seems to take forever to get into the indiana threads - all the other pages i subscribe to dont seem to have the "time latency" issue. maybe 'cause its the most active group, & hence more content to upload ;-)

I've noticed this as well on mobile, this thread just loads really slowly. :hu No problem on my computer, though!

:celebrate You're going to be a basket case before this is over!

Aw, I'm flattered! You didn't think I was a basket case to begin with!

@Mother2Hens
, those are definitely not normal sounds. I suggest you have your local avian vet take blood samples and have Purdue run their avian upper respiratory disease tests. Some are worse than others. Some will improve with supportive care. However, you need to know WHAT you are dealing with so you can figure out how long you need to keep her in quarantine. Whatever you do, don't let her near your remaining birds, and be sure to wash hands and preferably keep a separate smock for Lacy and for your other birds so you don't carry it from one to the other. Pending that, I would consider adding some water-based vitamin supplements as well as some dry cat food to help keep up her strength.

I'm not going to speculate on what of the many things this could be. That's what the tests are for.

I am so sorry you can't seem to catch a freaking break!!

I definitely agree, rattling is not normal! I didn't hear anything in your video (quite possibly because the speakers on my laptop stink!!), but rattling should not be there! Have you listened to her lungs for any rattling there? If you don't have a stethoscope, you can usually hear them pretty clearly by lifting one of their wings and putting your ear to their side underneath.

If you are going to get blood tests done, just be aware that some respiratory diseases can come back as false negatives using that method and you usually have to have a second sample drawn about a month later to confirm a negative. I had two of my hens get a tracheal / oropharyngeal swab to confirm MG in my flock so that I could avoid that second test.

Fingers crossed it's nothing serious! :fl

Yay, duckies on the way! :love It's so hard to go anywhere when babies are hatching!!

And I so know it on those Octagon incubators! I've never been able to take a picture through mine with my good camera and flash!

Baby is peep-peep-peeping lots this morning!! Not out of the shell yet (as far as I know) but it's definitely through the shell and active! I can hear Margie clucking to it over the baby monitor, it's so sweet! :love URGH, I have to go check on her now!!

Editing to add, Margie's being stingy with the babies. I peeked in at her and got the silent treatment, but over the monitor I can hear her clucking and the baby peeping. Still have no idea if the baby is hatched or not. I guess I'll just keep sitting on my hands. :tongue :hit

One baby out!! :weee I went out to check on Marge just now because I kept hearing a LOT of peeping over the baby monitor, and baby popped out from under mama for a second in the back corner of the pen behind her while I was looking in. It was back under Marge before I could get a picture, but it's white with little black flecks, just like daddy Reuben! :love Will get pictures as soon as Margie allows for it!!

I work from home Thursday and Friday so i always try to plan for their hatch date to fall at the end of the week and these little ones started earlier than I expected. Day 35 is tomorrow.
So i wait!! I am heading home in a bit.
