INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

I had 2 of 3 that were hatching showing signs that the goop was hardening so i pulled them all and assisted. Glad i did, 1 of them was pretty bad. All veins had receeded and yolks absorbed. I kept adding water through the vent to make sure humidity stayed up but it didn't help. May have made it worse.?? Also glad i did because another egg had externally pipped but on the under side which was yellow and dried out, i wouldn't have known if i didn't go to candle the others. Soo...ive been working on it every hour since i discovered it. Its veins weren't receeded all the way so trying to leave it be except to help progress it a little at a time.

So far 2 are all yellow and 2 wild type pattern. Can't tell with the last fella yet.

I placed the hatched into the styro bator to use as a hatcher.
Not a great pic but here it is.

:fl Come on baby duckies!! :fl Can't see much in that picture, but I do see a very sleepy looking duckling. Poor baby's had a rough day!! :love

That's the hardest part with incubator hatches, those instances when you have to get in there and help like that! :/ Sending good vibes your direction!

So excited!!!

Just got 3 batches of eggs that I bought in the mail today. LF polish, golden neck d'uccles, and golden spitzhubens. Some came from NY and the others all the way from California. All arrived unbroken and looking great. I know I need to let them sit for 24 hrs before putting them in the bator, but when should I candle them to see how the air cells are? I am so excited about these guys, I hope a bunch hatch.

Here is the complete family! :love Mama Margaret's off the nest now with them, in a blocked off section of the coop where the babies will be safe from the big meanies in the flock!

Babies 1, 2, and 3 as I posted before. :love

The good news--they can all be told apart pretty easily! I've got to come up with names now!! :weee

Oh boy I know, its rough. Thats why if at all possible I broody hatch now. I usually have several sponges around the eggs, and dampen the paper towels at lockdown. Even then I often get shrink wrapped ducklings. I had a hatch of 14 and all were shrink wrapped. Fortunately my DD was still at home then, and helped me get them all out.

Oh trust me i would much rather have been able to broody hatch but no duck hens and i just knew those 15 eggs wouldn't fit under my broody silkie gal!! Lol!!

Ive gotten great hatch rates even from all that way.

I let them rest 24 hours and then put them upright in the bator but dont turn on the turner or turn them for another 2-3days.
Then i candle with them in the carton or turner however your setup is, i don't handle them at all for a couple of weeks.

Thats just how i handle shipped eggs if not slipped under a broody.

Yep, brrody babes are 10x's more adorable! !!

So happy for you and Margaret!

Needless to say with all of the handholding required for the ducklings hatch i haven't made it back to RK!

Now both of the human boys are asleep, they stayed home sick today. They got to give lots of lovin' to the fluffed up duckling. So maybe after dad gets home i can go.

Ok, last duckling out and in the hatcher. Ding dong me dropped the lid to my brinsea, now explain to me why don't they make the with handles!! Broke 2 duck eggs and 1 silkie egg... i opened the duck eggs and 1 fully developed but just dead, the other not as developed, silkie egg only about 1 wk along and i let it be, not seeping but sure it wont make it now. Geez!

1 duck egg left i think it isn't alive but not certain.

The last duckling to hatch is not all yellow but i am not sure what it is. So count is:
2 yellow
1 wild type
2 ?? They aren't wild type as i think or have seen.

Obviously i will have to post better pics once they are all dry.
1 of the yellow was so gooped up its not fluffing I'm sure its because its all crusty. SMH

I hate trying to get that stuff off. I usually wait a couple of days and then it just flakes away with my fingernails.

I am i love! ;) the first hatched is so personable already!

Shining a light on them i would swear all of the non yellow are chocolates!

The one that appears wild type isn't black it looks dark chocolate. The other one still wet does too..
Then the other yellow has a darker tipped tail then the first yellow.
The odd ball out looks chocolate too but not as wild type patterned as the other 2.

Make sense! Haha. Pics coming!
