Met mother goose the yesterday and 20 of her French black copper Marans came home with me well 16 black 4 blue I'm ok with that lol

They now froleck with my svart honas and brabanter

Wow 11 out of 13 was way more than expected. Can't say my rooster isn't doing his job I guess lol. I read too many posts from people with my incubator saying less than 25% hatch especially on their first try. @pbirdhaven, that picture is hillarious, especially with the comment.

I got home last night and knew right away that the feathers in the front yard were fresh. So whatever...in broad daylight...got my white easter egger. I can't say it was the dog again, but when I know it was coyotes, they would kill quickly and take off with the body. There were 3 different spots were it looked like a chicken blew up in the yard, just like several that had definitely been killed by the dog. I really hope they will actually get rid of that dog!!

[Dish chickens]

I hatched out 3-EE and 2- Maran eggs that the roo was a Black Orpington. Anyone made that cross before? any idea if the green or dark brown eggs will be dominant. I put the eggs in with 30- of my Splash over black orpington eggs just to see what happens with egg colors.
any help would be appreciated.

id guess the EE/Orp cross would give you a lighter olive egg
the Maran/Orp prob some type of brown tone egg

Hoping I can still talk the wife into a garden pig this summer. @jchny2000
 has several, and she has mentioned using a hot wire for them, and I know others that do. I'm more of a hog panel guy myself, because I don't have room for them to pasture, and I want to use them as tillers for my garden area.


Swine are easy. Make sure they have shade, especially if they are white hogs, they will burn without shade and mud. I would put hogs right up there with dogs in terms of trainability and personality. I've always loved having hogs around, and it has been far too long since I had my last hogs, so i'm looking forward to it.

Great!! I was excited about the pigs and using their manure for my garden. We have plenty of room for our pigs for a pasture, but we are building a pen right outside the barn on the concrete, cause with this being our first year with pigs we're and by "we're" I mean me, lol, know how this is going to go! History with animals with my fiancé, he wants them, all of them, but when it comes to taking care of them he starts great but in the end I'm the one always ending up doing everything! And my history of animals...oh lord...I get attached so easily and so quickly!!! Anything and almost everything I fall in love with and would take everything if I could afford every animal that ever walked in front of me! Lol One of the reasons why I'm nervous about these pigs, I just know I'm going to end up being the main caretaker and I know I'm going to get attached, and then when the day comes where we have to take them to the "house" (can't say the other word, too hard) I know I'm going to be heartbroken! Anyways, I'm not sure what kind of pigs we are getting, my fiancé has been doing most of the talking with my neighbor who has a pig farm, but right next to the pig pen is a huge oak tree so there will be plenty of shade! And with these pigs we are starting now because if this sticks we would love for our son to get into 4-H. I was never in 4-H and always was jealous of the friends that were. I grew up on a crop farm with no animals. What kind of training do you have to do with pigs?
