Those that know us well also know we keep livestock too. I share experiences good, or bad to maybe help someone else have a better outcome. Today was a first, worst case I'll never forget with my goats. I flat love goat milk and its all my dad can drink without issues.
Had a horrible experience with our oldest Nubian goat, Eve. I have avoided keeping the Nubian breed for years, every time I've kept them there's been issues. I took in a small herd of 3 due to a friend's life events. This time is no different. Eve was almost 7, went into labor early this afternoon. Things were clearly not going right at all so I called my vet immediately. He was on a call all the way up by Ft Wayne on another emergency. Called both my backup vets both also unavailable.

Eve died during labor. When I knew she had passed, I chose to open her up to see if the babies might still be alive, possibly save them.. Nope, 1 massive perfect buckling the size of a 3 week old kid! The baby was so large she couldn't birth him. I won't go into more detail there is no question after examining the baby. Those considering goats, message me (PM) For more detail.
Nothing short of a C section might have saved Eve but without those skills myself, Eve's end result would have been the same If I had attempted something that drastic. I'm not a vet, I understand goat anatomy but surgery in an open field.. Sometimes even your best possible backup plans fail and its a hard fact keeping any animals. Bless your heart Eve you were a really adorable loving lady and will be missed.
