Yes he is a pure bred Hereford. Jersey are able to birth the mix due to body cavity size. Hereford are very gentle like Jersey. I work with 4H kids and have small grand children/Nieces & Nephews so I insist all our livestock and birds are gentle breeds. So zero is a Hereford then... okay
I've owned Holstein and have a neighbor with around 40 head. Don't care for them, too flighty. I've milked both and personally prefer a Jersey hands down. One of my girls gives me 3 gallons a day and this was a first freshen. That's plenty of milk for a family of 6. The cream line is amazing, after drinking raw milk from them just wow. Store bought milk is like water. If I remember correctly Jerseys have higher butter milk content and produce less than a Holstein and are slightly harder to milk.
Horn worm hunting with my black light tonight. Think we got them all didn't find any one at all. Some of the tomato plants are failing with the cooler temps.

this tomato is mine LOL it's our 2nd Dr Wyche a yellow tomato. I really didn't think I would like it. Its amazing, and I am glad we tried it from Baker creek. I love tomatoes and will eat them like an apple. Anyone else try a new tomato this year?
I've got very little put up also. All the spring rain and cold really hurt the tomatoes and peppers. They have rebounded but fall is coming fast. I tried new varieties of tomato and peppers. Tabasco peppers are just booming so I can do my 1st Tabasco sauce this year. Jalapeno are doing awesome, yum! I'm not pleased with the "blueberry cherry tomato" disappointed in the taste. It is prolific but it doesn't matter if we don't care for it. The chickens love it so its not wasted. I will grow the Dr Wyche slicers again, and the beefsteak tomatoes, YUM.Our entire garden has not been as good this year as it typically is. We got everything in later because early May we took a 2-week vacation (to Australia, so I can't complain). But we've canned so much fewer than we typically do--I know this winter, I'm going to be bummed that we've used up all our homegrown canned goods!
I always share the good and the bad stuff. Had a sad loss here today, one of my older lavender Muscovy hens (Lavvy) went egg bound and died.Saw nothing to indicate a health issue so am a little upset I might have been able to help her. I've kept Scovy over 7 years now and this is a 1st for us. She was starting her 3rd clutch of eggs. Really good mom and a total sweetheart. Her sister hen (Livvy) took over caring for her ducklings so am relieved for them. They have always brooded together and raised ducklings together. Very sad for Livvy, she was pretty angry and actually attacked me when we removed the body. I fully understand why and am not upset with her at all. She is also building her new egg clutch so I added the 2 extra Lavvy eggs to her nest.
