INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Good morning. So I've come to the conclusion that I cannot have 3 drakes no matter how many females I add. I'm at my limit with birds. Now since I'm locking them up due to a fox, it's become apparent that I'm putting too much effort into the extra 2 drakes - who are quite wild anyway. They have been raised here for the past yr since hatching, but they avoid me at all costs. I can't even get to them to exam them without a huge hassle. 😪
So, I've got to rehome or they are ending up as dinner.
I've been looking for someone local to process. I'm contemplating doing it myself. I've tortured myself by watching duck processing videos, but my husband thinks that I would have a hard time with it - which is true.
I guess I'm just venting.

If you do go the processing route, is it the actual killing part you would struggle with, or the whole deal? I personally struggle with doing the act of killing them myself, but I have no problem plucking, eviscerating, etc. Perhaps your husband would be willing to help you with the dispatching part?

I think it's the initial step. The rest I could do though the eviscerated part doesn't appeal to me. :sick
Oh and he won't do the deed.
He's a softy, but doesn't want to admit it.
Once we had an injured rabbit from a car running over it out front and he couldn't end its life. I had to. But, I wasn't connected to that animal.

Hello! Does anybody have any silkies available? I’m ISO of some to add to my flock sometime soon. The closer to the middle of Indiana the better!

Hi BYCers.
Our backyard flock of 11 hens and one roo have had 3 unexpected and unexplained losses in the past 10-12 weeks.
Our flock ranges in age from 1.5 years to 8 years old. They’re all pets and we’ve had each one since they hatched or were day old chicks.
The 3 hens that died were 1.5, 3, and 4 years old. They were all healthy until their death. There were no obvious signs of trauma or illness.
Our flock is established and steady-no changes in anything-members, food, bedding, etc.
I’ve called the US dept of agriculture to report this. Had to leave a message and they may/may not get back with me.

Sorry for your losses. Have you had wild birds die in your yard?
They have reinstated that you can feed the birds now. Just clean feeders. There was never any resolution as to what was causing the song bird issue.
