Inexpensive cameras

I have electric in the barn, but the wifi is intetmitent and fluctuates from full on to half of what Im suppose to get. Complained alot to AT&T but it doesnt help.

We needed to put in another router for our cameras out in the coop.

How did you do that?

Seeing how my internet would deal with the wifi camera is one reason I wanted an inexpensive camera. Had to make sure the signal would be available where I needed it. Did not want to spend $100 dollars on one camera to find out my signal wouldn't reach. Now that I've bought the Wyze cameras I do not see any reason to spend money on a more expensive camera that will do basically the same job.

I did the same thing as you while setting up camera. Finally went to Youtube. It was easy as pie once I knew what to do. I love Youtube for stuff like that.

I felt like such an idiot. I was used to doing it the other way with my nestcam. Duh. I kept checking the " show me how" link it showed during set up and finally realized I was pointing the wrong camera. And it only took me an hour to figure it out
I was ready to send it back and even sent an email to the company. Sucks getting old. Im glad I dont have kids.

So to those using the wyze cameras, do you all have power going directly to your coop???

Yes. Extension cord (not recommended) going from an outdoor GFCI outlet on my deck, down thru the deck boards and into the coop. Pretty much a direct shot down from above since my coop is under my deck. Not as risky as a giant extension cord running across the surface of a backyard, but still risky. I know the GFCI outlet trips when it is supposed to since my Christmas Lights on the same outlet tripped a bunch of times before I diagnosed the problem with one of the strings of lights. I might upgrade this summer and run something more permanent with conduit and Romex wiring, but not sure.

One other problem I had, besides scanning the code thingy, was it would not connect on my network.

Took me a few minutes to figure out that it's not compatible with my 5GHZ frequency.

Thankfully I have two... It works perfectly on the 2.4 one.

One thing I did read either in the instructions or in the app itself is that its not compatible with 5Ghz. Good thing you figured it out. Its pretty frustrating when y ou cant get something to work right.

I guess I had read that two but I didn't know what it meant at the time.

For those with weak wifi on the coop side of the house.... I had the same problem and got one of these.

Easy peasy and no reception problems since. But I have the amazon Blink cameras (battery, wifi, etc.) and not the Wyze.

While Wifi passwords are possible to crack, I am surprised you have not solved the theft issue by just having a strong password? You can also make your wireless access point not visible (not broadcasting its presence), meaning you would have to manually type in both the wireless network name and the password to access it. I do not recall if these cameras allow you to type in a network name manually, or if they will only allow you to select from/join publicly visible networks. Something to think about.
