Hey gang!

My chicken had a ball of pus coming out of one eye yesterday morning. I removed it with saline as much as possible and today her eyelids have stuck together with hard pus. No swelling though.

I'm thinking, saline washes and trying to find some kind of antibiotic but not sure what is best? I'm in Australia, btw.

Terramycin if you can get it would be best.
Triple antibiotic (neomycin, bacitracin and polymyxin) will work if you can't find the terramycin.

Is there a foul odor to her eye? If so, you’re most likely dealing with Infectious Coryza, which is actually a respiratory infection that can affect the eyes and cause them to look infected and full of pus. I suggest squeezing all the pus out and flushing the eye, then treat with Terramycin eye ointment for a few days.

A warm wet cloth held on the eye for a few minutes can soften the eye crust, and you can get it open to rinse it with saline eye wash. Then an antibiotic eye ointment or eyedrop may be used twice a day.
