A peahen had a sinus infection so I took the drive to the avian vet with the rooster in tow.
The vet said not to cut his foot being so close to the bone. He said his hands are tied due to new government regulation on chicken ns and antibiotics(go figure). So the only medicine that he was able to give me was powdered tylan.
I'm currently soaking all the chickens that have bumblefoot and treating them with tylan dailycurrently(10 days). I did try the surgery on a hen with bumblefoot, it went successful, but the emotional toll on a first timer makes me never want to operate again.
The vet was able to prescribe batryl to the peahen, I'm giving that to the rooster also.
Edit: The Rooster was worse than I thought, the staph was in his bloodstream, his breast plate also had large lesions.
After checking the remaining chickens in that flock, 5 hens out of 7 had bumblefoot.
I purchased this rooster at a bird show, I was careless not to see the staph on his foot when I took him home.
Out of my 3 flocks, only the chickens living with the infected rooster were affected by the staph, buyer beware.
