Hi, we currently have 7 chickens; 2 RIR hens, 1 BO hen, 1 EE hen, 1 bantam BTW Jap. hen,1 bantam cochin hen, and 1 bantam OEG rooster. I did not expect him to beable to service the standard hens, but I have seen him mate with my EE a few times. I put a few of the Cochin's, the EE's, and tha Jap. eggs under my broody, and the only eggs that hatched were the Japanese bantam eggs. I am wondering why the cochin eggs did not hatch. The Japanese bantam has a similar body shape, so maybe that's why.

I am also curious if anyone has ever had a bantam roo succesfully fertilize a standard hen's eggs. Thank you!

I have heard of a bantam rooster successfully mating standard girls, but it doesn't happen often. They will look as if they are mating, but remember the vent areas have to line up/connect. So usually when a bantam mounts a larger girl, if he's holding on up near her neck it's just impossible for that to happen. As for your bantam cochin, have you seen your rooster mount her??? If so, you might think about trimming some of her fluff around her vent area. Maybe she has too much fluff for "contact" to be made???
