I will try trimming down their feathers. They are all very fluffy hens, the roo is also. I'm also curious about the AI. We have had it done with horses & cattle but that's it.
I've hear too that breeds with a lot of head plummage might need a trim so they can see what they're doing. I saw one silky roo that looked like he had a mohawk!

Yes there is a Youtube video and it is pretty good. Trim around the vent of your rooster and down, then take the hens and trim around the vent and up, including the tail.
Also, sometimes, different roosters breed better at differnet times of the year. My friend has bantam spangled hamburgs and they are only fertile int he fall. My buff silkies are hard to get fertile, the rooster I was using only was doing his thing like a month or two out of the year, and seems to be in the late summer. I replaced him this year with a blue, we will see how that goes. My whites are just starting to get into the swing of things, fertility is about 50-75%.
